Hey All,

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on Telecom's current handset line up?

3 main questions really:

[edit] What handset do you like the most in the current XT lineup?

What would you like to see more of?

What do you dislike or not interested in?

Also considering the old CDMA range was rather limited, do you think Telecom are doing well with there lineup rotation?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts

I had really hoped to see WP7 devices at the launch.
I am trying to get one through LE and Gen-i but no luck so far.

Good to see the Galaxy S arriving very soon :)
I'd like to see more HTC branded phones also.

I am not interested in the very old Android version phones.

But, Telecom are doing far better now with their range compared with at the XT launch. - which I thought was far too limited.

The HTC Touch Pro 2 is in the current XT lineup.

I personally share your views, When HTC first arrived on the mobile market I was rather sceptical however over the years I feel they have proved themselves as a major, reliable brand.

Thanks for your feedback :)

Yes. A bit disappointing, having pre-orders for business customers only. It looks like Gen-i doesn't realise this is a consumer line of handsets. They are in for a surprise thinking this is a business tool like Windows Mobile 5.x and 6.x was...

I believe it was more to do with sourcing.

For Telecom the focus is very much on Android at the moment so chucking WP7 into the mix didnt seem logical at the moment.

I think the reason Gen-i are getting them is there are quite a few large corps that use WM at the moment for specific WM based only software and for those wanting to upgrade it presented an option.

That and the normal sourcing issues i.e: Fulfillment quotas, box pricing, not being a "large enough" network provider compared to the world market etc.

Has Telecom thought about having a word with Telstra in Oz in teaming up for handsets?

No idea if that's a good thing or a bad thing mind, just a thought :)

I'd like to see Telecom begin selling the iphone since there is so much talk about it working good on XT

Given the focus on Android, I would like to see some HTC devices introduced

Also more nokia devices, N8 if possible.

There are heaps of cheap LG and samsungs that are sold by people on trademe, in the same price range telecom only have the R handsets, which as most people know someone who had a R100 or similar and hated it so the telecom R brand is in the dirt.

Why can telecom not get ones like the samsung rugby and some of the sliders etc branded with their name and I would assume sort the MMS etc out.

Also, the pricing on the 2730 is way to high for the type of handset it is, a bottom end one should be $99-140 tops, at $250 its in the range where you would expect to see a half decent one.

Cheapest clamshell is $300 - many people dont want candybar phones because of screen scatching and needing to lock them etc, $300 is way too high, there needs to be one at half the price max.

Firstly, stay with well known brand names, and no more rebranded zte phones.

htc has always been a good brand. remember they were the guts behind the likes of the ipaq and jas jam jas jar handsets. my current handset is a touch pro2, my previous handsets were the htc titan and the htc apache.

increase the range to include both windows phone 7 and android. sure android is flavour of the month right now, but lets give customers a really good selection. also make sure the selection is right to date. eg the milestone only just got released while the milestone 2 has now been released overseas..

telecom also seems to have its head in the clouds when it comes to the higher end handsets being only for the business centric user. more customers are becoming tech savy and getting into multimedia on the go.

im with the teaming up with telstra to help bring more handsets here. why didnt telecom get the htc desire? the hd2? im sure the logistics behind such a partnership are quite complex but give it a go? im sure there are benefits to be gained by everyone involved.

hmm that's enough for now :D

- Telstra HTC Touch Pro2 - Energy ROM WM6.5.5 20 Oct/Cyanogen Mod Froyo 2.2 - R.I.P
- AT&T Galaxy S Captivate 16GB on XT (now with brother)
- Samsung Galaxy S2 on XT- Runs ICS 4.0.3 Resurrection Remix 9.2
- Business Hours - Work In The Electricity Industry, After Hours - DJ/Turntablist - Will Scratch Vinyl For Free'
- What's next??? S3?

What handset do you like the most in the current XT lineup?
I don't like any specific handset but think that the increasing lineup of Android devices is to everybodys advantage.

What would you like to see more of?
I think there is a need for 1 or 2 more lower end device, particularly for prepaid customers who want to switch from CDMA, such as the Samsung A411, and the I think that XT connections would rise with a offer to CDMA prepaid users (such as $40 off + free SIM etc), and more upgrade opportunities to on-account users.
Telstra in AU sell the Nokia 6120c for $99 on prepaid, and taking into account exchange rate & the fact Telstra network lock I believe you could offer it for $250 - an example of acquiring more users, with the possibility of moving them to a larger on-account plan at a later point.

$5 SIM cards - that is a major selling point for 2degrees.

What do you dislike or not interested in?
ZTE devices (well, their cellphone line - haven't used any data devices) are rubbish, and speaking with reps from Telecom & returns staff at a major retail chain confirm this. I have numerous glitches in my R6, and the R100 has terrible build quality. Poor software.
I know many who have trashed their ZTEs - but then, more free batteries for me Laughing
I would avoid Apple, but that is my personal view.
