isky is launching on Nov 24, according to this http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10687818

Telecom was in talks with sky about offering umetered isky http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/telecom-talking-sky-tv-about-isky-partnership-132770

Does anyone know the status of those talks, if unmetered will be happening or not? I can't be the only one seriously contemplating moving my isp in order to get isky without having to worry about my data cap.

Unlikely since Telecom already has the unmetered traffic with caspa for tivo.

But hey, what do I know.  Would be nice.  I'm waiting for Non Sky subscribers to get access to it, something they hinted maybe possible in the future on a per item charge I hope.

If the webcast of the quarterly result is available on the Telecom website (your telecom, investor relations) then you should listen to what Alan Gourdie said rather than the intepretation of the reporter that asked the question.

My interpretation of Mr Gourdie's comments were that depending on how successful iSky was then Telecom might consider unmetered and that the relationship with Tivo didnt preclude Telecom from offering it.

There might be an update on ISP's and active discussions at the iSky launch tho.

If the largest ISP in the country doesn't have unmetered access to ISKY, then it is yet another "Telecom fail" I wonder how much longer they are prepared to keep losing loyal customers instead of moving with the times?  They no longer are a monoply and should have realized that by now.

I don't see how this is a "Telecom Fail"
Just because they are the 'largest isp' doesnt mean they have to unmeter isky access
They offer Tivo so why would they want to offer another similar product unless it benefits them in some way?

I would rather see unmetered national traffic again instead of to selected locations such as isky

No we won't be unmetering it right from the start, it's got nothing to do with tivo or caspa, we just want to have a look at what the traffic is like before we do it, because we're the largest and regulated we have to look at what the impact will be to the whole of Telecom, not just the retail end of it.

We will be doing a review early in the new year and will make an informed call at that point

Thank you Doozy. much appreciated . Good to know telecom are 'on to it" Personally I don't think there will be a huge uptake but it would be handy to occasionally use ISKY when a program has been missed  ;-)

Good to hear that Telecom is taking a cautious approach because God knows I don't want to see a 'Big Time' fiasco repeat where the neighbourhood is utilising isky and I'm sitting here struggling to get over 10KB/s download speed.

If telecom havent been able to unmeter tvnz ondemmand then i surely dont expect isky to be unmetered.
Sky have commissioned (Kordia I think?) to build them a caching system. Which I believe telecom could easily order some units of and place them at local exchanges or at key points in the network.

I am glad that 'net-neutrality' hasn't been given as a reason for not offering it unmetered.
