Whats the "cheapest" XT compatible phone that supports Exchange out of the box ?

I noticed the V/Fone 845 does but is limited on XT to main centres due to bands etc.

The Samsung Galaxy 5 - very nice phone at $299 I have put together a review which is on geekzone.

Don't trust the sony-ericsson's that say they support exchange (non android, eg. 508, 705 etc) as I have not yet got the exchange support to work with those phones.

Glad to see it works for someone here is a thread of issues people are having:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrmobility/thread/2b978b76-a29e-4a2b-a28f-43d716562b54/

Would suggest that if you're going to rely on the Sony for exchange support that you check it with your exchange server before purchase.

a second hand palm treo 750 (or 750V) works just fine on XT. It does 3G 850 as well as 3G 2100 (but not 3g 900) and all the GSM bands.

the sony ericcson vivaz works fine with exchange, but i find the roadsync software user experience pretty awful.  in fact i find the whole vivaz interface pretty awful.

Is the ZTE Blade available in NZ?

Here it's just become available and I couldn't resist my first ever 24 month subscription.  For 12 NZD/month (6.90 €) I get the unlocked ZTE Blade, unlimited and uncapped full speed HSPA+ data and the basic monthly fee.
Just in July I was using iPhone 4 with full-speed HSPA+ -- when not holding the phone in my hand..  Sorry Steve.

Anyway, The ZTE Blade is bringing a lot of features to a totally new price point.

I've just bought a ZTE Blade from the UK for $224 NZD. Plus will be about $8 to get an unlock code. Very excited! Seems a lot better than the Ideos which is currently $299 on 2 degrees.

I doubt it will.  The specs don't even always mention 900 Mhz 3G although at least the model distributed here does 900/2100 3G.  What is interesting that the carrier I'm using has a 5 Mpx camera on it but the other carrier sells a model with 3.2 Mpx camera -- not that it would make any difference to the picture quality.

If one forgets the price for a moment, it's not a superb phone by any standards.  But build quality is fine and it does the basics pretty well -- and for the price, it's just perfect.  After all the carrier is paying me 14 NZD/month to use it ;-)  As the phone is unlocked, the finnish auction site (huuto.net) has quite a few for sale already for about ~100 €.  Unfortunately the site is only in finnish.  If one gets ~100 € for the phone, you get almost free unlimited uncapped data for the next 24 months for your iPad or USB dongle.

The next 12-18 months will be interesting with the new cheap models from ZTE and Huawei.  Huawei U8800 is another relatively cheap model to check.  It doesn't do 850 Mhz 3G either, I'm afraid.  850 Mhz can be a bit difficult for the moment as it's uncommon in Europe and Asia and the low-end models don't do everything yet.

Just got it, got a free unlock code from Modaco website, also rooted it and installed custon ROM first time round no probs again all from Modaco website. All seems to be OK on 2 degrees (sorry don't mean to go off thread).

I love new techy stuff and was feeling a bit left behind, but this looks like a fabulous intro to Android for $225.
