Hey guys, as most of you intelligent ppl out there in GZ land :D have more knowledge about these things than I do, can someone have a quick looksee and tell me if anything jumps out as being an issue?

DSL Speed is slow and we are getting intermittent noise on the line that Chorus seems to have trouble nailing down

Attenuation looks a bit ugly, do you know how far you are from the exchange, cabenet?
Also do you know the condition of your house wireing?

I get similar speeds on 42-45dB attenuation down sometimes, so IMO it is too low.

Approx 2.1KM from the exchange if you follow the main road, and about 250m from our cabinet. Which is currently going through upgrades to ADSL2+/VDSL Will be completed next month according to Telecom. As for the house wiring, The house was built in the 50/60s and there is 5 telephone jack points. oh which we only use 1 and it has a filter. Modem is a THOMSON ST5x6v6 and is approx 12 months old.

Rip out all the other jacks you can. Old house wiring is barely twisted and the third wire used for ringers really screws things up.

I agree; best to check under the house too; I went under the house and found there was frankenstein wiring adding at least another 20 metres onto the wire length for no reason - I've since replaced it with a single wire that goes from the street to the kitchen then from the kitchen up stairs to the modem. Couple that with new cable I installed the net result has been a connection boost to the exchange of around 1000kbps (to 3391kbps) just with those few adjustments. This is with ADSL1 IIRC because according to Telecom NZ the exchange isn't due to be upgraded until June 2011 next year :(

Also agree, my current home had alot evil cat3 (not even twisted), between that wire and the fact only one leg was connected (was on nDSL) my connection was pure ugly. Since I replaced all the cat3 with cat5 and installed a master splitter (and had the second leg reconnected) my internet is now the best I've ever had.
Too many homes have bad wiring yet its so simple to replace.

Hmm im no expert but my attenuation is higher and yet have a better sync rate. Something is still wrong?

Philica, you are comparing an ADSL 1 sync'd set of stats against the OPs ADSL2 sync'd stats. Sadly they aren't comparable.

Well from my understanding his sync speed should just be generally better due to the fact he gets adsl 2 and i dont? Even more so if he has a lower line attenuation.

Your line attenuation stats differ when the sync protocol changes.

If thats meant to be ADSL2 then I laugh lol at present I sync at 2.7mb down and 900k up, speedtests show an avg of 2.2mb down and 700kb up max.

The Speed isn't really an issue, as I can easily carry out my work etc without an issue, but for a line that is claimed to be vastly better, 2.2mb down is pathetic. Not to mention that the line isn't stable. plus the fact that Chorus haven't found the fault that is creating noise on the line. Both Chorus techs have heard the noise firsthand.

Although we did have a Chorus guy in a suit come around yesterday to inspect the work done by the other techs, which I thought was interesting.
