this is one of those "wow, this should be on the website!" questions. Sorry - URL accepted in response :)

My wife and I have just got back to NZ from the UK, and we are on XT prepaid (we are only here for 3 months, no point in getting a contract).

I got the $18 240meg data extra thinggie. My wife has used 50% of that in 3 days.... :) Thats not the problem tho.

Anyone know if:

1) I can buy another when it runs out?

2) can do I do this without calling telecom (who appear to not know what a "data pack" is when I tried last time), or going into a store? eg online (the login/rego thing on the front page doesn't recognise my number, tho the mobile broadband bandwidth thing does :) )

3) Anything else?

I'll get the 500meg one next time I think - but any thoughts on this would be great!

Cheers

Nic

Excess usage on that data extra is charged @ $0.50 per MB. Just change to the 500MB plan (currently 1.5GB!) which is 10c for the first 300MB (i.e. $29.95) when you have used your 240MB.

*333 to change, no need to speak to anyone :)

Or there is the 500MB Smartphone Extra that is $38 /month, and with the current promo it comes with 1GB and 5000 national SMS. You would need to phone the Prepaid Help Desk or visit your local store however for this one.

With the $18 240MB data bundle, XT is currently offering double data for that bundle for 1 year. Just ring 0800 32 32 32 and ask the CSR to add your double data so you get 480MB for $18.

Data Extra's (240MB, 120MB, 50MB) are not doubled. The 2GB and 4GB Mobile Broadband plans are with a contract (24month), and the Smartphone Extra's (open term) are also doubled in terms of data and SMS.

$28 for 240MB (480MB) and 2500 (5000) SMS

or

$38 for 500MB (1GB) and  2500 (5000) SMS

Thanks, I'll try this once it runs out. Last time I tried *333 it didn't have that option. I'll have a play. And tell the Mrs to use Wifi when we are at "home", not 3G.... <sigh>

Thanks!

So the double data is a postpaid only offer? Can you get smartphone extra on prepaid specially the $28 package?

Yes, the 2GB and 4GB double data are postpaid only. Prepaid can sign up to the $28 and $38 Smartphone Extra's with double data and SMS.

Cool thanks. I don't see the smartphone extra option for prepaid users on telecom website. I am guessing we would need to ring up prepaid help desk and get them to manually add the $28 package to our account? Also is it true that $14 is for data and the other $14 is for the text messages totalling $28. If you don't text anyone, would you only be charged $14 for just data or the full $28?

It is split charging as far as I know, however I'm not sure what that split is exactly.

Yes, Prepaid Help Desk or a Store can help you with that.

Thanks to everyone on here, I finally worked it out (and switched to the 500 meg package).

I didn't get the "yu pay 10c/meg up to $29.95, then it's free until you hit 500meg, then you 10c/meg until you hit another $29.95, then it's free to 500meg" etc etc.

That makes a LOAD more sense. I still rather like O2 (who I'm with in the UK): ?7.50 for "500meg" - well, unlimited until you wanna do a LOAD of traffic over it. Atleast with XT I can tether, which is going to be stupidly useful for me in January!

Thanks everyone!
