My Okta touch won't receive any or send any voice calls or text messages.  Is anyone else having problems or is this a big coincidence?  The call centre and "complex technical issues" call centre both said the network is fine, my phone is the problem and I should go and buy a new one.  I'm a bit miffed that an $800 phone didn't last 3 years with reasonable care.

Am I floating alone in this boat or is it filling up?

AFAIK EVDO is data only.it shouldn't affect voice or text at all.

That's what they tell me, I'm hoping for a conspiracy rather than just rotten luck. Nothing ever easy and I was hoping they'd screwed something up when shutting down EVDO.

All that should happened is your data speed has gone down to a snails pace.

Did you flash upgrade it recently or something like that?

I would recommend going into a TNZ store and seeing if they can sort it out.

Did the problems started exactly when the EVDO service was taken down?

We received two text messages on the 1st of December, a lot more than that were sent to us though (reports from friends via facebook / email) . After I was told "buy a new phone" I tried the upgrade to see if it was a software problem covered by an upgrade.  Am also considering flashing Android to it (mainly to see if I can) but would be interested to see if a different OS controls the hardware any differently / better.

We're getting a Samsung Galaxy S in a month or so but I'd like to keep this working for some software I'm designing in Windows. $800 for 3 years has made me think twice about the Samsung though.

I was thinking that it may be set to EVDO only, but there was never any EVDO in Hokitika. How about if you try using it elsewhere (say Greymouth for example) - does it work in another location? What happens if you set it to search manually for a network?

I have managed to call out twice (out of a couple of dozen attempts) calling in goes to voicemail after a lot of dead air.

I'm still trying to find manual search option. I light shake reveals a quiet rattle which doesn't bode well.

Update: I am now running Android 1.6 from the SD card and when someone sends me a(n) sms, it opens the gateway and all my sms messages to be sent.
