I love modern flips, very convenient, protects the keypad well, keeps your phone in better condition (the inside half of it anyway).
Open flip, answer call, close flip, you know the call is ended). Flip phones are generally higher spec'd (or rather there are less "low end" flips around I guess). They are well built these days - the flip usually outlasts the rest of the phone. They will only break if you abuse them. Some brands in the past have been able to be pressed out to totally flat (in case you sit on it or something, though i think this feature is less common now. Big plus is that your screen will almost certainly stay scratch-free.

Candy bar phones (non-flip) generally all have auto keypad lock now (some dont, like the 2280). There is less physical movement to answer a call, they are easier to answer one-handed (great for driving!! - just kidding... dont use your phone while driving). Candy bars usually have a slightly larger screen I think. You expose your buttons and screen to dirt, lint, scratches (by keys in your bag or pocket?)

Im a flip fan these days. Currently on an LGNX225 which I think is great value.

Personally have liked "candy bars" till recently, most flips were bulky from lid to base making quite some lump in a pocket but they have since got quite a lot slimmer,

Flips as they fold up seem to have much bigger keys and usually larger clearer displays than candy bar cousins, small keys, even with small fingers are a pain. Flips displays also seen to take more knocks before smashing as not so exposed.

go into a store and handle some, I agree with Tony, The LG has a nice form factor, Good sizing, good buttons and nice confy rounded corners and small but big... Go take a look. the Sanyo's tended to be a bit fatter but have good ringers and Push To Talk.
