Okay - So I'm heading overseas in a couple of days and I am on a XT network on a postpaid account. Now where I'm going they charge 20$ per meg for data. So as you can imagine I do not wish to run into any unwanted data usage. I'll do my best to seek out hotspots but is there a way to safeguard my phone from accessing the net unless its during a hotspot?

I went into a telecom shop and asked and she said no not really unless you get them to individually turn it off but even then she said she wasn't sure if that was possible.

Anyone know any better?

What type of phone do you have? Many phones have the option to disable data roaming

l43a2: does the fone have airplane mode ?

How will he be able to make or received calls then!?

What about if you changed the data APN's and made them bogus ones - then it probably couldn't connect?

Could someone from Telecom verify if this would work.

We are not able to turn off Data while roaming but leave voice and SMS working. The previous suggestion of changing the APN is a good suggestion , as is the idea to check the phone settings for an "diable data roaming" option.

as JohnR said it depends on the phone.

many smartphones have an option to disable data roaming. I know Blackberrys do, as does the iPhone.

I can add/edit APNs so I will give this a go.. I think the best way would be to add one and enable that rather than edit an existing.

Will report back
