Hi guys,
My partner & I are having trouble sending email via Microsoft Outlook using our new Telecom Tstick.
We still have our old Telstraclear dialup connection as well, while we trial the Tstick.
Anyways we have a Telstraclear email address (which will not be needed eventually as we hope to get rid of dailup) & also a paid for domain name email address, running through Microsoft Outlook. Can send & recieve email while connected to dailup, but can only receive & not send email while connected to the Tstick.
My partner is starting up his own business so email is vital!
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

To send email we have to disconnect Telecom & connect to dailup, it is very frustrating!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

ohh whoops sorry.. am not home so cannot check but found some info on Telstraclears website, am pretty sure this is what our settings are.

Incoming: POP3): pop.clear.net.nz
Outgoing: (SMTP): smtp.clear.net.nz

and for the domain name email, settings are:
Incoming: mail.livewirepyro.co.nz
Outgoing: mail.livewirepyro.co.nz (port 2525)

hope any of that helps, lol

Sending emails through the telecom connection will require the telecom SMTP settings. Leave the incoming as is and just change the telecom.

Or, if the outgoing server lets you use 'Outgoing server requires authentication' under account settings, tick ' use same settings as incoming'

Give plan B a crack first as this will work on the dial up as well whereas Plan A will only work via the Tstick.

Probably should have put them the other way round :-)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

As far as I know telecom doesn't operate SMTP for their mobile broadband.

I think the problem you have is that Telstra still use the default smtp port 25 while Telecom blocks port 25 for smtp.

If telstra allow you to use smtp port 446 (I think it is) then you should still be able to use it on telecom.

It's quite common for service providers to block outgoing connections to external smtp servers on the default port of 25 as an anti spam measure.

Most smtp servers will let you connect on port 465 with TLS or SSL.

Not sure about Telstraclear though.

Using XT you go through the Telecom Xtra network, which is highly integrated with Yahoo and a cause for must frustrations when trying to send emails from non Xtra addresses.

Key setting is Outgoing: (SMTP) - send.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 465)

If that doesn?t work, plan C will most likely involve setting up a YahooXtra account and registering your TCL email address as an authorised email address to send emails using YahooXtra email servers via the XT network.

Your suggestion to use send and port 465 wouldn't work in this situation as 465 requires authentication and the OP doesn't appear to have an xtra email account to authenticate to.

One thing I would be interested in knowing would be is the OP sending via the clear smtp server or the alternative host mail server. There shouldn't be any problems sending via the hosted mail as that appears to be using port 2525.

Contact TelstraClear, and explain that you have their email service and wish to send via a mobile network.

The should provide you with secure authenticated settings for both POP (incoming) and SMTP (outgoing). Work arounds mean that you have three potential issues with mail delivery (XT network, Xtra Email settings and TelstraClear who provide your email service)
I think TelstraClear charge you for their 'Mail plus' to use the secure settings with their email settings (as opposed to standard unauthenticated and unsecure settings on Port 25 when on their network/dialup).

Please, please, please don't use the Telecom SMTP servers if you have a Telstra email address. For two main reasons, the first being that Xtra's SMTP often are blacklisted and secondly its best to use an SMTP server that is authenticated for sending for your domain. Telstra will offer connectivity to their SMTP server via other networks using authentication and SSL with another port.

But to be honest, if you have your own domain now anyway I would suggest you look at having your own address there. Then get Telstra to forward your emails to that address. Your hosting provider should also be able to offer webmail access which means you won't even need to setup Outlook - just login to a website with your email address and a password, very similar to Gmail.

Can I just add that the Telecom XT network does not block any ports. We do not do any application or address filtering for any Internet connectivity.
There is no "integration with Yahoo".
All we provide is Internet access.
Every single problem, like the one this thread started with, that I have investigated over the last 10 years on both the CDMA and XT networks, has been traced to an ISP using IP address filtering on the SMTP and/or POP3 servers.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I tried some but its all abit technical for me lol. I rang Telecom twice last night & was on hold 15-20mins each time so just gave up.

Zeon - we do have an email address from the domain & have set it up through Outlook to make it easier, no password entering etc.. & it seems that email address works fine with both the Tstick & dialup.. might just get rid of the telstra email, want to get rid of dialup altogether anyway :)
