They look quite good relative to earliers models I've seen. $300 and $500 on the nose for a wireless router is a bit steep though... but they look like really good widgets to take away to remoter parts of NZ at xmas, easter and long weekends. Position anywhere for a good signal, local wifi for your widgets....

Yes, there were some discussions here a couple of months ago about people looking for these kind of routers and we even received a couple of third party XTcompatible ones.

Then Telecom brought in those, and the company who was bringing the third party ones decided they didn't want to compete directly, so are moving in another direction.

Good to see those on XT now...

I have used one, and I have another to take home to test over the holidays. I have found them good but I may be biased. The Netcomm Wireless Hotspot is much more portable and I think can be charged via a Car charger too.

These options seem very expensive compared to the Edimax 3G-6200n I've been using recently. Computer Dynamics in Albany supply this for well under $100 wholesale. You can insert an XT, Vodafone or 2D modem stick and it provides sharing via 802.11 b/g/n wireless as well as 4x ethernet ports. I've used mine with XT's MF626 and MF636 modems and the Vodafone entry level modem.
It also doubles as a standard ethernet router/AP and a USB print server back at home. It's been rock solid, and I've been pretty impressed by the quality of the Edimax gear, despite being inexpensive. I believe it's probably as good as the far more expensive Netcomm product.
No additional software's required. You can change the APN settings to suit from the built in web interface, and that's about it. Note: It doesn't have an internal battery so external power is required.

That link takes me to an empty cdynamics page. Just ensure that the wifi hotspot does WCDMA 850 if you want it to work on XT. Most of these devices are not yet Quad band WCDMA frequencies and therefore will work with Vodafone/2Degrees OR XT.

My post above had two links separated by the word "and" so i suspect you tried to load the two together, hence your problem. Try the following separately. As mentioned, I've used the Edimax very successfully with XT, because of course you need to supply your own USB modem, hence it doesn't care whether you're using 850, 900, or 2100 Mhz 3G frequency bands.

The difference appears to be that the second unit has a battery in it.

I'm not sure why you'd bother on VF or 2Deg as you can get a 8150 for $299 with a $150 ATC which will act as a wifi hot spot, though I wouldn't like to comment on the wifi range, I haven't tested that yet, but it's sure got a poor receiver in it.

Oh yes I did mix them up @Spong, my info about the frequencies was more if you were buying one yourself and you didn't plug in a t-stick just to be careful which one you purchase was all :)
