OK enough is enough.

I was having major DC issues with the Thomson TG585 V8 modem earlier this week.  This was a brand new modem and have only had it about a month. I was getting about 5 DC's in an hour that morning on the Thomson.

No settings had been changed.

So Telecom suggested I switch back to my Linksys modem and see if the DC's were still happening.  With the Linksys running, I had no DC's at all that day and the Tech guy was monitoring it from his end.

The reason I do not use my Linksys AG300 is that it is not utilising the full benefits of ADSL2+ that has recently been activated in my cabinet.  I get half the speeds.

He said it seemed to be a fault in the modem and they would send out a replacement modem.

My understanding of a replacement, is that you get the exact same product replaced.  So when my modem arrived I was very disspointed.

It was a TG585 v7 - SECOND HAND!  this had been used, the box had a yellowy tint to the plastic, the wireless antenna was floppy and the pads on the bottom were worn.

So I rang 123.

The non kiwi, not in this country helpdesk person asked if the replacement modem worked and I said I am not replacing a brand new modem with a second hand used modem, so I am not  plugging it in.

So he said he would send me out a V8 model, to replace the exact same one.

Courier arrives this morning, was not expecting that, as the guy said 3-5days.  Open the box, low and behold another V7 model.

This to me is appalling, I have not opened it up to see if it is another used one, in case it is a new one.

I wouldn't go into the shop and replace my cellphone for a lesser model.

I am not going to spend my Christmas Eve on the phone to Telecom.  I will continue using my Linksys till next Wednesday and do it there, unless a Telecom representative here can help me out.

I am starting to lose my faith in telecom and thinking I should have stayed with Vodafone, but their internet wasn't as stable for our gaming - and we noticed the difference.  Might have to look at TelstraClear at this rate.  The neighbours next door have no problems with them.

I have seen this disconnect issue many times with these Thompsons, I have now given up on putting customers through the pain of sending them back for a replacement, its just too exhausting and wastes everyones time, you will just be put through the wringer that you have already begun.

I recommend that you get a TPlink TD-8840 if you dont need wireless, they are about $70, if you need wireless then the TD-W8950ND should be the go.

Thanks Cyril.

Yeah I might do that.  I'll just keep using my Linksys until I can afford it.
