We have been away on holiday since boxing day 26th december.
I was just checking our xtra usage meter and I fould there has been over double the upload usage and download even though we are not there.
The only things left on were the TiVo box and the adsl router.
Could TiVo be doing this and if it is, I thought the fixed usage meter wasn't supposed to record any of this ??
Anyone else noticed this since their meter came back on ?
The daily usage is pretty much the same very day since we have been away.

Yeah until recently if you had TiVo and had your broadband with Telecom your broadband was not metered at all. Telecom has just solved this issue and you are now metered.

I just got an 80% usage notification just before we went on holiday so will have a look at it closer once I get back.

But all TiVo usage is supposed to be unmetered if you have xtra as your provider even after the meter was turned back on.

I have been away with only router and TiVo on and my usage is generally about 0.4mb per day that I am away.

doubt it wouldbe the TiVo. Other than CASPA things which you have to download manually, the only other thing it downloads would be the EPG, which would only be a few megs, and certainly not every day.

you definitely have secure wifi?

yep, definatly secure wifi with wpa2.
i'm going home tommorrow so i'll check it all out then and make sure nothing else was left on..
Its strange the daily usage is almost identical since I've been away..
Does anyone know how much a TiVo does use updating itself etc ?
Doing a search on the web, a series 2 in the states uses about 1.5 gig a month calling home all day etc..

It is set to record a couple of shows daily with a pass, that wouldn't do t would it ?

Still doesnt explain the large amount of uploads. I don;t know why you would leave your modem on while on holiday anyway?

I never turn it off actually, it stays on 24/7 and its on a UPS...

Hrmm.. I'm having similar issues and do not have wifi (cisco 837 router)... 21GB used in 24 hours when nobody was apparantly there? I'm not complaining too much cause it's a new capped plan and renews shortly but if it happens again it'd be a nuisance.. overall happy with telecom's performance since I've started using everything with them about a year ago but is this perhaps a relapse of the metering problem experienced not so long ago?

Just been away for 3 days and left 2 x TiVo's running. Broadband usage upload during those days was nothing (0.00 MB) and download 0.08 - 0.09 MB each day.

Doubt your TiVo is causing your issues.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Just out of interest- been looking at the TCL threads - does telecom log where traffic goes? or does it just log in/out for billing purposes? Might be helpful if it was known where all this traffic was going but I'm assuming it isn't logged as it would create more problems than it would solve? (more servers, more space for logs etc)

Just wondering what happens if you are an Xtra user, and you go over your quota, and are slowed down to dial up speeds. Does it also slow down the Tivos broadband connection too. It shouldn't as the Tivos usage is unlimited, but I am wondering if Xtras systems are smart enough to leave the broadband at full speed on the Tivo part of the connection, and slow it down to dial up for all other uses.

Definately uncapped speeds on CASPA ondemand - certainly faster than 60kbps that the rest seems to be capped to

How are you checking your usage? The usage meter is down for me and nearly everyone i know on telecom
