I am currently in Bali (Indonesia) for a conference and I am not able to receive incoming calls or use mobile data. I can place outgoing calls fine.

People calling my Telecom XT mobile number in New Zealand are greeted with "this number cannot be reached" (or similar). I can't use mobile data at all.

Yesterday, while in transit in Australia I was able to receive incoming calls and use mobile data.

I am connected to Indo XL here... Any ideas?

You can make it a collect call so you don't get the bill shock Smile from memory Telecom advised you to make collect calls to their helpdesk in a roaming brochure. Don't quote me on it though.

No Bill shock
Certain numbers are zero rated whilst roaming. For example the roaming help desks UAN 33710866 and *333 (from your prepaid mobile).

When mum was working in aussie 3 years ago, we got billed $1000 from Telecom for calls to the roaming helpdesk (she struggles with tech) and after a while on the phone to them they only agreed to drop it to $600.

EDIT: The phone number she was calling was +64 3 371 0866

Got a phone call from Telecom this morning, so incoming calls are working now. Still no mobile data, but not too worried about this one since I am not planning in using it between the hotel and airport when I leave tomorrow.

Thanks Akia for arranging for someone to call me.

Hi

The caller was me. Glad it is working now.

I love the way that I'm called an engineer. I am in fact the architect for roaming :-)

Glad we could try to help

Thanks for the call. Incoming calls are working now. The conference ends today and my flight is not until 10pm tomorrow... I plan to spend a bit more time outdoors, so won't be spending too much time with my mobile ;)
