Today I  put my XT SIM back into my Samsung Eternity as I have done over the past 6 months and within 1  minute I got 3 SMS called Configuration for the APN settings.  One each for TelecomData, TelecomMMS and TelecomConnect with their install password.  I'm not sure how I got these as I didn't think that Telecom has a service like 2Degrees whereby configuration settings can be sent out.  I ran the installer on all of them  to see if my incoming MMS problem had been fixed and it hadn't.  Are these held somewhere on the SIM and if so how do you  get them??  One of the guys at work yesterday got an XT SIM and put it in his Galaxy 3   but he had to use the AMP settings from GZ.

TIA.

Most operators (incl Telecom) store this data on the SIM. When the SIM is inserted into a phone if it supports the capability it will ask you whether you want to use the APN's on the SIM, or may just automatically use them.

There is a system within Telecom which detects when a new SIM(IMSI) + Phone(IMEI) combo connects to the network and sends out the 3 SMS's to reconfigure APN/Data/MMS settings for hardware that isn't issued by Telecom (ie the IMEI is outside the known range of Telecom devices).

You still need to select that APN in your phone, plus depending on the phone the MMS settings may or may not be applied.  This is "supposed" to make the job of configuring your phone easier.  I am not always so sure about that as I also always get 3 sms whenever I swap sim's and have a lot of TDC items in my APN list.

Yep Bartender is correct; last time I checked the message said "From Telecom:" so that it didn't seem like SPAM
