Due to a fault with our normal Internet connection I have setup a 3G router using a Telecom TStick.  This is working well for the PCs on the network connected to the router and they can surf the net and retrieve email.  I need to also access a server connected to the router using RDP from a computer on the Internet. I have setup DDNS on the router which is working, and it is updating the DDNS website with the external IP address of the router, and I have forwarded the RDP port to the server's IP address.
I am unable to connect to the server from an external address.
I have also enabled ping responses and enabled external configuration of the 3g Router while testing but neither pinging the router's external IP address or DDNS name works, and I cannot http to the router's configuration page.
Does Telecom block incoming traffic to Tstick IP addresses by any chance ?

Which APN are you using?

Yes, depending on the APN being used, to prevent unwanted traffic being counted to your account. You should use the "direct" APN for incoming connection. See our Telecom New Zealand APN List.

Thanks for the info. The router configured itself as soon as I plugged in the TStick so I was on the Internet before I even got into the router setup!
I will try and talk someone through making the change in the branch office to try and save myself a trip!

Also be aware that by using "direct" you will be able to be DDOS'ed or have people port scan your IP address.  I would recommend turning of ICMP PINGs and anything else you can on the router to prevent any additional charges.

Plus I would keep an eye on your Usage using mbbmeter and make sure that you don't get any crazy spikes.

You will however need to set an initial password on the sim card, which would require you putting the TStick into your PC, getting the one time password sms message.  After that change the password in the portal so it won't expire until next year.
