Ring Telecom and ask

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Call and ask. I was on a Total Home package with the Pro plan (40GB) which came with interleaving off, but when I switched to a Total Home Broadband package they turned it back on.

A quick call to Telecom and it was switched back off again overnight.

Before getting it turned off I'd investigate why it is on in the first place - generally speaking it is turned off by default so if it is turned on it is because of some reason that a prior owner has had. I know for me I had interleaving turned on because my ADSL connection constantly dropped out and thus had to have it turned on to maintain a stable connection.

With Telecom it is on by default, except with the Pro plan.

That is particularly strange - any reason why the 'Pro plan' is excluded?

There is no technical or individual line reason why interleaving is on or off by default for any Telecom plans today. This many change in the future, but right now it's a product by product choice.

Simplest (only) method is to phoe your ISP and ask to have it changed (on to off / off to on).

To be fair, it's usually pretty easy to determine from your latency to the first hop (usually a BRAS) or looking at the stats for your connection in your ADSL router...

But yes, if you think you're going to be asking for a change, you might as well phone your ISP.

However, there is the inconvenient fact that turning off your interleaving won't help the vast majority of use cases... Most people get it turned off without understanding why they are doing so and can in fact harm their connection performance.

But whatever...

Cheers - N

Log onto your ADSL modem and in the status of many modems out there it will tell you the modulation type.
