Went to the telecomwholesale.co.nz website and punched in my home address (penney ave mt roskill) and work address (upper Queen St in Auckland CBD).

If I am reading it right, I am covered by VDSL and therefore adsl2+ (What I currently have), for home, but there is 0 vdsl in the CBD? How can that be? Seems bizarre beyond belief.

For home, it is confusing because it says I am covered but also says it won't be installed until April 2011?

Anyone able to take a quick look and let me know if I am just reading it wrong?

The line cards they have been installing in the ISAM's in the cabinets are multi mode they support both ASDL2+ and VDSL2.

They won't offer VDSL2 as a retail product until they have finished testing/piloting it, hence the April 2011 dates.

I don't know why upper queen street isn't list as being a VDSL2 area or whehter it is or isn't.  Someone else on GZ might know.

I would guess the Telecom Wholesale map is not very accurate when it comes to business addresses.

I'm in the same area, not too sure but the way I read it is that the area is on the exchange rather than a cabinet, hence it doesn't show as such? I tried that in a few areas and the cabinets are showing vdsl where exchanges weren't. Hope there is someone that clarifies the details though as agreed, it would be pretty odd to exclude a cbd from vdsl. Bring on retail version!

There's something screwy with that map; if I put my home address in then it tells me that VDSL2 is coming to my cabinet in June, but the area around the cabinet does not get highlighted in green (I have of course clicked the "show VDSL2" link). Other cabinets highlight green but not the one I'm on (but the text on the right indicates that VDSL2 is indeed coming to my cabinet).

I've contacted TelstraClear about it (since Telecom Wholesale says to always talk to your ISP first if you have any questions) but haven't yet heard back. I'll post here if I learn anything.

Update to my previous post: TCL has logged it with Telecom Wholesale.

Well last week about the 16th, my sync rate dropped from high 8's-low 9's to low 3's, and my upload speed went to 1MBit and there hasn't been any difference in speed across 20 reboots. Orcon sent a tech out but no update, I am thinking my area got cabinetised. I am on the Blockhouse Bay Exchange ATM.

Is there without being moved, a way to determine based on the drop of my sync rate, what my cabinet based speed would be? Is there speed calculator?

Does it sound like cabinetisation? How long once I get a confirmation, does it take to get onto a cabinet?

It certainly sounds like you have probably been cabinetised. Do you know when you were scheduled to be? see http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps

As for determining the sync rate, there is really only that map to say you are within a 10Mbps zone- but you can generally expect better speeds when you move to the DSLAM in the cabinet than at the exchange- loose rule of thumb.

As for how long it takes, that depends on Orcon sending an order in for it to be actioned. I assume you are on their LLU service currently? The shift will result in you becoming part of the Telecom wholesale network. I don't know if you'll get charged more for the wholesale plan, at a guess I'd say so. I was on Orcon when I was cabinetised a few years ago but they couldn't or wouldn't move me to wholesale so after 3 months I had to leave. I hope you have better luck.

Just on a side note, obviously the other thing to consider would be internal wiring. If in doubt that you have been cabinetised (if the dates look way wrong), and a technician hasn't visited your home to do tests to confirm a problem, you should probably look to internal wiring issues. No doubt someone here will ask for you to post your connection stats from your modem/router

It's not an internal wiring issue, nothing has changed in our house and we have a seperate jackpoint properly split (No need for filters). It's been checked many times.

Are you a Orcon LLU customer? If so and your address has been cabinetised your problem will only be fixed when Orcon migrate you back to Telecom Wholesale.

Some ISP's such as TelstraClear chose not to offer LLU services to customers who would ultimately be cabinetised. Others such as Orcon signed up customers on LLU but once the cabinet is active midspan injection causes a massive amount of interference.

Yes I am Orcon LLU, and yep I know I need to get them to move me back, the problem will be getting that done, since we still don't have confirmation about if the problem is cabinetisation but I presume it must be that since a tech was dispatched yesterday, the job is signed off, the problem isn't resolved, and no case notes were entered on his job.

I went though the same thing with Orcon a couple of months back when my area got cabinitised.

it was fairly straight forward to get switched over to telecom wholesale.
I called Orcon and explained that my connection had dropped from 7mbps to 3mbps.
They requested I run their fault finding program (which they emailed to me) and wait for a reply from them.
I did as requested and got an email from them confirming the area had been cabinitised and I could expect to be changed over in about 10 days.

All up it took about 10 days to get switched over from LLU to the cabinet. I get charged the same amount and now have one of the fastest home broadband connection iv seen.
Im sitting pretty at 20+ mbps sync rate.

Hi There!

I am apparently going to be on the Blockhouse Bay R cabinet (BHB/R), how can I determine exactly where that is so I can calculate the distance between my place and the cabinet? I think it might be on pascoe st, which is, depending on which way the cable runs, between 750m and 1km from my house, if that is the case, what are my likely speeds estimated to be?

They don't publish exact locations of cabinets as far as I know.  Phone lines don't always run in the most direct route from the cabinet/exchange to your house either.

It's just crystal ball gazing to guesstimate your potential line rate before the cabinet goes in.

I would guess 15Mbit - 18Mbit for <1km

Be prepared to replace your modem if it's not using a broadcom chipset and fix house wiring issues in order to maximise line rate.

eg:  My Linksys AM300 sync's at 15Mbit/400Kbit and my TP Link TD-8840 sync's at ~18Mbit/800Kbit, so the AM300 has been benched.

This Chorus spreadsheet has coordinates. If it's not in there then try this one.

Thanks for that. Dumb Question. How do I take 2664426 6474828
and get a location?
