I got a Samsung Galaxy 5 phone yesterday on the XT network.  I haven't been able to find the exact answer I need on the telecom website, what features on my phone do I pay for with my prepaid credit?  Do I pay to use the GPS?

You pay for anything that uses mobile data.
GPS mapping while the GPS uses nothing, the map information does.

I strongly recommend an appropriate data plan.
