Last night I discovered I could no longer access any wordpress blog. I can get to the wordpress homepage and I can logon to my account but I cannot get to any blog pages. I have tried using IE as well as Chrome, and I have tried other computers in my network at home but I still cannot access any of these sites.

I then tried going via a proxy server, and it loads as expected which makes me think it is a DNS problem either at my router or ISP (xtra). I checked the DNS servers - 202.27.158.40 and 202.27.156.72

Does anyone else have this problem (cannot load Wordpress blogs)?  E.g. http://mountaintosurf.co.nz or any random blog from the wordpress homepage.

Wordpress is currently under a large DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack.

WordPress claim they are all back up and running as normal, but I still cannot connect although friends can from other locations (ISPs).

Friends on Xtra cannot.

I noticed earlier today at around 11am I could no longer access WordPress hosted blogs via Telecom either. One minute it was working, next chrome was giving me a connection error. DDOS attack seems plausible, although when I tried via Vodafone mobile it worked fine.

maybe part of the DDOS was coming from a bunch of zombie infected computers on teh XTRA network IP range, and blocking their IP range mitigated the attack....

given that xtra is a "default" ISP for the clueless, this would be quite plausible - its probably got the worst rate of infected mom and pop client computers on it.

Or could be that Telecom's transparent proxy got the errors and is showing that to you, until it refreshes its cache (unlikely, due to the large number of blogs hosted on WordPress).

Can you access TechCrunch now?

Nope, no techcrunch either.

I use WordPress for an event website, and the event is tomorrow. Great timing. But nothing I can do about it.

Yes, that works fine for me, but not for all the other people (competitors) who will want access.
