Hey guys,

I would firstly like to say that i love my new 5600. The colour display, video, SD, photo etc functions are truly amazing. However, i am finding it almost impossible to get ring tones on my phone. I have found several tutorials and have tried the following.

- Clip selected MP3 down to 30 secs and reduce amplification as not to blow the speaker, then convert MP3 in quicktime pro to either (i.e. i have tried all) AAC, MPEG4 and 3GPP and then place in all available folders within MINI SD (for completeness). I can then play all formats in the media player but when i try to find them in the settings --> sounds ringer settings, all i can see (when i select SD card) is the one video (which i can use a a ringtone) that i recorded from my phone and the 2 3GPP files in the gallery but when i tried to set any one of the 3GPP files as a ringtone, it tells me that it could not use it.

My second problem is that i am having trouble sending videos, pictures and sound to my friends on 021. Apparently, once one of my multimedia txtes are received (i usually just snap of a pic and hit send, fill out the message body leaving the sound and video sections blank and then send it) are only getting a message saving that they have to visit a website to view it. I am only attempting to send pic to phones that i know are pix capable and are new. Is there are way round this ? I thought you could send photos, video and sound simultaneously to any phone that supports multimedia message on any network ?

u actually need to upload them to a site and then it will give u a short code to download them with, it can be costly paying for the data. Sorry i cant help further, cant remember the site and im at work. busy busy

Thanks ok. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where i can upload and then subsequentlly download my new tunes onto my phone ? Is there anyway to do this for free ?

Does anyone have any answers on the video/pix problems ?

Thanks ! Will have a look now. The tutorials that i was talking about were found on sprint info, which helped me convert mp3's into the relevant format but what i carnt work out is that you can record videos on the phone and use them as ringtones, but you cannt import videos and use them as ringtones:(

Still don't know whats going on with the video/pix messages. Any ideas ?

You need to cut a 30seconds or so clip of an mp3 file using a program such as "mp3DirectCut". You then need to convert the mp3 file to M4A (MP4 I think?) using a program like "dBpowerAMP Music Converter" (Download the R8 Version if you can find it as it wont ask you to pay for it), and then upload it to a site like "rumkin" (http://www.rumkin.com) which will generate a short code if the file it not too big. Done.

Thanks for the reply NZBNW. I followed a tutorial on the clipping and formatting of files so thats ok ... however, i have no idea which number to use (http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/) or what my phone email address is. I discovered today that it's costs me 3c per 10 kb or something to navigate to the url they give in order to download it.

I assumed that +6427******* or 6427******* would be valid 10 digit plus numbers as specified at http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/ but an error came up telling me that the number was not ok. Are there any other prefixes that i have to append in order to make this work ?

Hi

It says "If you leave this blank, a jump code will be generated for you automatically." in otherwords dont put a mobile number :)

Yes wap usage is expensive, so its not exactly cheap, expect about $8/ ring tone depending on size of course.

Wow, thats increadable. Cell phone carriers have really got you by the balls huh. Could you suggest any other more cost effective ways to get ringtones ? I'm thinking that i should flag making my own and just get some commercial ones. Are there any free websites that you know of ?

No other way I know of making your own, but still I make my own just because I can have unique ring tones.

Even if you find some so called 'free' sites you still need to pay for the data transferred via WAP ($50/Meg)

Voda can't accept photo/video messages from Telecom over 300kb, what you are sending may be over this size and are being prevented from being delivered to the 021 mobile. Check out http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,8748,204423-201458,00.html.

Try lowering the quality of the photo, or duration of the vid.

I just had a look at my exsisting photos and all of them are lower than 150kb which is strage. Are their any sanyo 5600 users that have suffered an inability to get pix/video through to 021 ?

I think i have worked it out, although expensive i prograssively went through varying resolutions at different qualities which resulted in the larger (in terms of resolution) message's not going through to most mobiles. Using the lowest resolution and highest quality, i was able to get a pix through.

Re: the tringtone downloading, use a fake file then overwrite t... means it costs you 5c for the whole ringtone.

See this Ringer Guide post for how to upload it

and also if the Rumkin uploader is too slow, try this Phone Uploader
