Hi All

Recently i have been having some issues with the Telecom Supplied Thomson TG585v7 Router.

I find that it often either reboots or drops the DSL connection and the times i am able to get on and see what is going on I find  the below message.

once it comes up i get the below details for my DSL connection can anyone help out and let me know if this is good or bad

I live around the corner from the cabinet and have tried swapping line filters (only have one) my layout is router connected direct to the master outlet (no filter and no other phone) in the house and a cordless phone connected to a second outlet via a filter.

i found a while ago the Thomson did not like a lot of traffic going through it e.g. streaming media files round the house so i have a gigabit switch that all my pc's etc are connected to and a single cat5e to the router and only use the wireless for small devices e.g. iPods and Mobile phones

These Thomson's seem to die slowly over time, with performance degrading through no fault of the connection. As you pointed out they fail with lots of connections. My bet would be the router failing, toss it and buy yourself a TP-Link like this one: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=480528 (not an expert, just don't like these Thomson's).

Same problem with our old one. We had it replaced 7 times before Telecom sent a Chorus guy round who said he fixed it, still had problems so they gave us a business modem as a replacement. haven't had problems since. They said it was our modem not authenticating with the cabinet down the road properly so it would shut off the connection every 24 hours or so.

I had this issue with telecoms 2wire business router at work, they had to exchange it about 3 times then ended up giving us the thomson one instead.

They both have the same issue... not just drop out but full power off then on again.
It takes so long to restart!!

It is not a power supply issue because a borrowed router works in the same place faultlessly.

Of course talking to telecom you get the usual "never heard of this happening before"

No wonder they are free :-)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Thats it, 2wire, forgot the name of it. its soooo big, only downside we've had. But the wireless range is great.

Had a client with the same fault with the thompson - found the issue to be an overheating one.

Found that it was lacking ventilation, because it was poked into a corner and covered with papers etc.

So moved the router to a new location and it's been good as gold ever since.
