I think it's about time for full disclosure on Geekzone.

If you work for a company in an industry you're commenting on you should be required to state so in your signature or not comment.

I thought it was fairly obvious given the disclaimed on their sigs and the tendency to have a bit of bias on the posts... It makes them quite easy to point them out.

While it may sound a good idea its probably going to make people think twice before taking part, namely due to the hassle and due to the possible 'Well you're a registered telecom (or other telco) employeee you're views count for nothing'.

Its a slippery slope though. If we make employees of telcos register, whats next? Users of the services have to register to remove 'potential bias'?

whilst I admire your sence of humour Jama, I'm actually inclined to agree with Mike... whilst no one here is annonomouys, it would save time in tracking down people who post information that may be viewed as illegal, or in conflict with their employment contracts...

The slippery slope allright, once it comes to that you will find employers requesting users be banned. People just need to learn what to and what not to say regarding information of their areas of work.

If you know that your employer wouldnt agree with you posting certain info, then dont, its really simple

I supose I was just being lazy... flag the identfy yourself thing, there are other ways to find out who people really are in the forums, anyway, this was intended as a heads up to jaffa rather than anything else...

Hmmm. Yes, and no. Unless you are being a troll. I always wanted to have one "official" participant from each operator, but they refuse to make their appearance. Perhaps too much scrutiny here. Or too many diverse opinions.

And yes, having an "official" voice from an operator wouldn't have to exclude other employees reading/posting here. I don't think we need policing around, except for the already discussed disclosure of commercial sensitive information.

mmmm don’t think my contract has a "don’t post to forums" clause. Freedom of speech? So long as you are not divulging company secrets, i.e. insider trading then surely you can say what you want as an individual.

Just my personal feeling - dont know if its lawfull.

Good idea Felix as they could also be downloader's of dodgy illegal content like music and movies. Knowing who they are we could then conceivably dob them into the music/move business and MS.

I think MS actually pays out money on successful convictions. We could use the money to fund an annual GZ knees up (for those of us left).

And that's the whole thing, isn't it? You may remember previous episodes where confidential information was disclosed, and we were asked by the rightful owner(s) to have that removed.

This is different from someone posting personal views in a public forum or a personal blog.

While a company such as Telecom NZ or Vodafone, or any other, may think "Gosh, what people will think of us, since one of our valuable collaborator(TM) is saying this in public?" I really think they all should read the Cluetrain Manifesto and join the party.

Seriously though, if the blog is not hosted on the company's dime, or the forum is a separate entity, I wouldn't see anything bad on people writing their opinions.

However, while here on Geekzone, if the post does not conform with the forum usage guidelines then it will be locked, or removed.

We don't need Thoughts Police® here, but we need standards.
