Hi guys, another question. The phone I asked the question about earlier..

If the phone could actually connect to the XT network (there might be a typo on their site - causing it to say there is only 2100MHz band for 3g, when in fact there is other frequencies supported), would you be able to use it on a XT prepaid plan? The $12 for 2000 txt plan etc.

If it connects on the right frequencies, I would think you could use it on any plan, prepaid or otherwise.

Yes, Why would you assume that there is a typo and it will do 850 tho?

But, the chiPhones tend to suck. I wouldn't bother. Only benefit in getting something that is a blatant ripoff of the iPhone formfactor is that you can get cases that fit, unlike any of the other chinese domestic market junkphones.

And that phone looks like it will probably only work in the main centres anyway - there are phones (that I know of) that are 2100 only. Some countries (Hong Kong, from memory) *only* have 2100 networks, they don't need any other frequencies as 2100 covers the entire country. Don't quote me on that however.

Hell, everything that vodafone sold up till recently was 2100 only, as is many of the current range. Its not abnormal to only have 2100 on a handset when networks have an old GSM network to fall back on.

An old iPhone 3G would be far better than any chiPhone and will work for you on Telecom prepaid with $12 texts etc. Go look on trademe but make sure you get one that's NZ New factory unlocked. If you buy an imported one that is aftermarket unlocked it can be tricky if you upgrade operating systems and it relocks the basement modem.

Short answer,
No - Don't even bother.

Those phones are lucky to support 2100MHz 3G - Also, they are slow, cheap, and have horrible screens (and quite often a horrible interface to match)

Head into store, and grab a Samsung Galaxy 550 for $299 - you then know it's a phone supported by XT, also it's one that is actually able to run Angry Birds at a playable framerate + do anything you need.
