Hi all,

Does anyone know what program is used to send an SMS from a PC to a Telecom Mobile ?

I received a message from this +502 number. Telecom confirmed it is a PC generated SMS but could provide no further information.
I would like to find out what program is used to send it.

Any help much appreciated.

I know a service which sends from this number.. (as I get them) .

Hi Lennon, thanks for the super fast reply.
The text content was of a personal nature, sent by an anonymous someone who knows me as it was "me specific"
I am interested in finding what generates the +502 number out of curiosity and also because I would like to use it to be able to SMS my sales reps direct from my PC.

Are you meaning an SMS that comes from the shortcode 502 or from a phone number country code that begins with +502

There are many ways to deliver SMS messages from a PC to a phone and plenty of companies that offer this service.

Hi, thanks for the quick replies guys, great site !

Its +502 short code generated in New Zealand as the person obviously knows me.

I spent yesterday afternoon trying various free SMS sites, programs like ICQ , MSN ( neither of which will send to Telecom Mobiles I discovered ) but had no luck generating a +502 message.

So I thought I would ask here if anyone knows what generates that specific +502 SMS

I use a monitoring company who messages come from +502 so most likely its coming from overseas someplace

I work for a company that use to run an SMS gateway that linked to the major telcos. We applied for and had a range of shortcodes including 502 that we used as part of a pool for tracking outgoing messages to paying clients. Shortly after obtaining the shortcodes from Telecom we began receiving complaints from random people completely unrelated to the service saying they were receiving unsolicited messages via the 502 shortcode. We couldn't see any evidence of the messages having gone through our system. It appeared an international web site had somehow hijacked the 502 shortcode and were providing open access to it for anyone to send messages. We informed Telecom as it was looking bad for both them and us. Telecom weren't able to do anything to stop it so in the end we abandoned the shortcode and Telecom allocated us a replacement.

Hi yes there was/is an overseas company using the 502 shortcode although not a customer of ours. Unfortunately this can happen and we deal with it on a case by case to notify the upstream provider to try get them blocked. Highly likely that person used an overseas web to SMS service to send it.

Phat if you send me the details like dates/time your number via PM I'll look into it.

The +502 looks suspiciously like a SMS sent from Skype without a mobile number validation. I seem to remember something like this when I was testing from Skype a month or two ago after Telecom blocked Intl SMS services.. After I did the local number validation I could no longer send to Telecom Mobiles..

+502 often comes up when an alphanumeric from number has been used where the local operator doesnt accept alphanumeric.
For instance, if you used websms.co.nz to send from a name rather than a number it would appear from +502

Telecom don't support the ability to offer alphanumeric SMS messages.
