I'm nearing the end of my first month with telecom broadband, on a dial-up limited plan. Just wondering if the dial-up speed restriction is applied immediately on reaching the data allowance or if it takes a while for it to activate? (on vodafone you seemed to have a lag between going over your limit and the cap being applied)

I have found they usually don't slow me down until the end of the day I exceed my limit. Sometimes it has taken a couple days.

If I know I'm going to go over I will set all my downloads going just before I hit the limit. The most I managed to go over before they slowed me was about 20GB.

Haven't been over my limit for a while but usually i don't notice it until the next day.

Last time I exceeded my limit they never slowed me down, was still full speed for another week or so until my plan reset. That was a few months ago.

Yeah mine has always been a bit hit and miss, sometimes the next day, sometimes a couple of days, sometimes a couple of days if i am nearing my rollover date.

May be to do with billing cycles or maybe all of the resets are done on every fourth day or maybe they don't do throttling on full moons or something

Went over my plan (20gb) yesterday and have been throttled back this morning.

Very disappointed to discover that it takes 24-48 hours for an data cap increase to take affect.

While it's been a while since I was on dial-up the throttled speed is unworkable for most web sites.

Started looking for another supplier but they all seem pretty much the same so will stick with the devil I know.

The customer service rep bore the brunt of my disappointment, I started to worry so called back to make sure he hadn't accidentally misplaced my request to increase my datacap.

around midnight to wee hours of morning. go for gold!!!

other providers will brake you immediately but not telecom in my experience.

Thanks, I'll see what happens. I had the vodafone method all worked out, was one of the reasons for staying with them, the most I managed was about 20GB too

It should be within 2.5hours. I.e. from the time the bytes flow through to your modem until the time the throttle is applied. However for some users it can take up to 24 hours.
