I had a look at Telecom XT network plans.

There is a broadband plan for 4GB of data.
There is a mobile Smartphone plan for minutes / txts and 1GB of data.

These two cost about the same.

I make very few calls in a month. I do send a fair number of txts...maybe 500+.

Ideally, I'd have a Smartphone plan roughly analogous to the Vodafone Smart3 (actually a pathetic 250MB / month, but with the "3GB Promo"). But Telecom's variation doubles the minutes (I don't want them) and offers a lot more base data....but doesn't come close to the data with the endless promo factored in.

I use between 1GB and 2.5GB / month in mobile data. I have never used more than 3GB.

None of the plans I see fit my usage....unless I signed up for a 4GB Broadband plan and used the SIM in my phone. I guess I'd then have to pay casual rates for any phone calls or txts. Assuming I can make phone calls and send txts.

Data overages appear to charged at $100 / GB. (10c / MB)

Anyone know?

UPDATE: Looks like I can do a "50 Anytime" Smartphone plan with 500MB of data included, then add a 2GB broadband data plan. I use barely 15 mins / month in outgoing cell calls. Most of mine are incoming. The total is about $90 / month for 2.5GB...and I can get another 2GB for another $29.95. That sounds not too bad....4.5GB for $120 / month *if* I go over the 2.5GB quota.
I was in a Telecom shop in Glenfield on the weekend and the woman working there hadn't a clue how the plans worked together....I'll have to refer her to their web site.  LOL!

Is there any reason you're stuck with XT? 2degrees has a lot of flexibility, but not such great coverage.

The 850MHz 3G network makes trips to North America easy. Just a SIM swap.

(I have SIMs on all networks, but my VFNZ 2 year contract is up in 3 weeks and I'm just reviewing to make sure I'm on the best available deal.....bearing the 850MHz nice-to-have in mind.)

Hi Linuxluver

The Data Boost and Mobile Broadband plans give you an upgraded data allowance rather than a data add-on. So if you choose a plan with 500MB then select a 2GB Mobile Broadband plan, your total monthly data allowance is 2GB.

The above comment is correct, also it would not be $29.95 for the 2GB Mobile Broadband plan to add on, it would still be $61.06.

Would be looking at $61.06 for 2gb of Mobile Broadband (plus if you sign up before the end of this month Telecom will double it for the next 3x months) and also the Talk and Text $30. If you have your Calling and Broadband with Telecom too you are able to go on the onebill which is 59c per minute for calling, add $12 for 2500 texts + 2gb of Mobile Broadband on your phone (so a total cost of $73.06)

From here, you are able to either sign up as Open Term (if you have your own device) or go on a term and get a account credit, you also get to keep your Vodafone Number.

Just make sure your device supports 850MHz / 2100MHz 3G (Samsung Galaxy S2?) and you are set, but not being a Telecom Sourced Device means the help with your actual device is minimal.

Also, if you go over your 2gb, it's just $29.95 for another 2gb.

The $29.95 would be for the second 2GB in the event you went over the first 2GB in the relevant month.

I'm getting an HTC Sensation (probably tomorrow). It's Telecom XT flavour. Hence my interest. :-)
