I'm not sure what frequencies they are planning to use here in New Zealand for LTE but there are a few issues in the US with the proposed LTE frequencies over there as they cause disruption to GPS navigation.

Hopefully the proposed LTE spectrum here won't have any such conflicts.

Which 4G? (Or Do they mean HSPA+?)

Also, GPS is 1.575.42Ghz/1.227.60Ghz, I don't think thats anywhere near the frequency bands they'll be using over here.

Analogue TV switch-off is due in 2012 which means you can expect to see an auction in 2013 and build in 2014.

but Telecom already has enough spectrum to do LTE services today if it chooses to... just not in the much anticipated 700MHz band, so I suspect they'll wait rather than trying to get a head start and potentially confusing the punters.

In the US plenty of HSPA+ rollouts are being touted as "4G" which is inaccurate. Glad we dont have that kind of nonsense going on here.

4G has turned into a marketing term, not a technical one. The original definition was 100Mbps or something, but marketers have gotten hold of it and now it's just 3G plus a little extra.

3G's fast enough for most things already. I'd rather have less latency than higher bandwidth.
