Hey there would anyone please be able to give a rough estimation of average pings to USA (any location) with interleaving off vs on? I'm literally about 30m from an ADSL2+ enabled exchange.

Cheers.

That all depends on what server you want to ping e.g get everyone to ping www.washingtonpost.com/

l43a2: cant ping that :P

Then something is wrong with your ISP's DNS or your ISPs connectivity to the nearest Akamai node.

However that really is not a good test, need to test to something not via a CDN.

Cheers.

Interleaving off

~30-50ms difference is normally the difference.

on callplus ADSL connection in Mt Eden, Auckland, with interleaving as default (on):

Pinging gameservers.com [208.167.244.70] with 32 bytes of data:

same thing from a callplus fibre connection (a lot more consistent!):

this is the route the callplus traffic takes (route is a large factor when considering latency):

Thanks to all who posted. My purpose was to try and get an estimation of ping improvement should I change if that was unclear.

I'm hoping that in the switch to Telecom I can knock off 50ms or so to the above (something similar to Ragnor).

Would have been interested to see the fibre tracert to the .com rather than .net (which you for some reason changed to Regs :P thanks still though). I'm pinging average of 358ms to the .net currently which is quite a bit slower.
