I am in Rolleston and the picture shows the cabinet we are connected to (ROL/AF).  Just a query to see if anyone knows what Chorus appear to be doing, as their website says our cabinet isn't due for upgrading until Dec 2011.  Does this mean we will be able to firstly, get connected, and secondly, receive ADSL2+ speeds once this work is complete?

Thanks

I would say based on the Green Telecom Ducts coming out of the ground, That they are preparing to put the cabinet in :)

Do they normally wire it up and convert to ADSL2/2+ at the same time, or is it normal to install the cabinet and then wire it later?

We are on a waiters list for broadband, so have a keen interest in finding out if the cabinet is being upgraded earlier than originally planned.  Means we can finally get internet other than tethered 3G over an iPhone!!

Thanks

It'll probably be several months before it's going from now. From the one's I've seen go in, the cabinet will appear one day, and they'll spend a few weeks putting them in surrounding areas as well. A few more weeks making wiring changes before cut-over date, then a bit more time sorting out teething problems...

There is quite a bit of work to be done, and even once they have the green cabinet sitting there and all the groundworks done it can be a few weeks until you are upgraded.

There is a fair bit of consideration put into the dates they announce, i think there is a spreadsheet on the Telecom Wholesale website which gives exact dates for switchover. Basically, dont expect it to come early, even if it looks 'almost ready'

Can take a little while for the migration to happen after the cabinet is installed ... there are work restrictions in place while the world cup is on so that could be holding it up also.

ps: just because it is around the corner from you doesn't mean you house runs off it, so might be worth double checking.

If you know your cabinet code - e.g. ROL/AF - check the cabinet migration spreadsheet on chorus.co.nz/cabinetupdate and you'll be able to see if it's scheduled to be switched on any time soon. Quite a few being done in Rolleston at the moment by the looks
