I know there's been a few posts about this but I haven't yet found a clear answer.
When I connect my Sanyo 9000 to my pc, I can put on music and stuff but I don't know how to put on any songs that can be used as ringtones, as they just go into the media player folder. Can anyone help????

Adam

Music files that you transfer to your 9000 from your PC using the data cable cannot be used as ringtones.

There are a couple of methods of getting either mp3's or m4a files onto the phone to use as ringers, check out these posts.

I prefer cutting the mp3 file down to 20 sec or so (using Audacity), converting it to .m4a using itunes, and then using the Sprint Focus uploader to upload it to a server.
Enter the url provided by the uploader into your wap browser and download the file.
Beware 1kb = 5 cents for download chargers for Telecom.

m4a files are generally smaller than mp3 with minimal quality difference for what you want.

Any questions just ask.

So the only way is through Wap? I've heard about things like BitPim and stuff, but it seems they aren't compatible with the Sanyo 9000. Are there no other options?
Also, for the WAP option, do you have to have a WAP website? I couldn't fully understand your post.

Cheers,

I managed to get ringtones on using BitPim, but it's pretty time consuming... wap is the best way to do this

No, I don't have my own wap site.
I use the Sprint Focus Uploader http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/ to upload the ringtone to their server,

Process is pretty simple, (use 0000000000 as the phone number), and url will be provided.
Open your WAP browser, click right top soft key, select "go to URL" enter the URL given and click ok, the file will be downloaded and placed in the ringers folder on your phone.

Hey,
I cut down the song using Acoustica and saved is as an mp3, but when I converted it to AAC it turned a 250kb, seventeen second mp3 into a 300(ish)kb seventeen second m4a. At 5c/kb that's $15 for a seventeen second tone! I haven't tried it yet, but surely there's some mistake?

never had that problem before, I convert it to .m4a using iTunes (select the file, right click, select convert selection to AAC)

This usually cuts the file size by half.

Unless the Acoustica software you are using is creating a mp3 at a lower bitrate than what iTunes it converting it into......

Also make sure the ringtone is only 15 sec or so long.

This is the best post as if you do it right... with bitpim you create a fake midi file and download that to your phone.. Telecom rounds it up to 1kb, charges you 5c, then you overwrite this file with BitPim and bobs your uncle any length/quality you like and it only cost you 5c. Works a charm on my 7400 and the Sanyo each use a similar filesystem.

PM me if the post by PhatBloke doesn't make sense... I'll do screenies or something.

That'd be good, but first I'd have to work out how the hell to get BitPim to register my phone's plugged in, especially seeing as it doesn't officially work with 9000's. Anybody want to lend a helping hand (or maybe two, considering I'm not that much of a computer whiz)?
