is there a way to turn off this cache crap ?  other then changing isp's

You talking about the transparent proxy or the Akamai caches?

You used to be able to.
You had to have a static IP though and the process was not immediate.

There was an IP range set aside for people to move to if required and it was bypassing the cache.

However all that may have changed, best to call them and ask...
