Is there any way to always have the date and time showing on the front LCD instead of it going off after approx 8seconds from closing the lid?

These horrible phones share the backlighting for the external display with that of the main display, The external screen is a recessed STN (read as total cr4p) type which is not viewable under daylight. This cannot be done sorry, Have you tried upgrading to a real phone yet?
