i have been trying to change my isp address for the past month now and still no luck. have called telecom over three times asking for them to change my isp address. i understand its not static and its dynamic but its not changing for over a week. on my old router i was able to turn it off and back on and a new i.p address was given to me. is there any possible way i can change the ip telecom gives me? i know changing the ip on my computer doesnt do anything since they read the isp ip. please advise me if this can be done or not?

thanks

edit: ive tried ipconfig renew, change mac address, all it does is change the ip address on the computer but it means nothing as sites and games are still reading the isp ip

Lol where did you get banned from? No you have to get your ISP to do this for you if power cycling your modem doesn't do it. Maybe try leaving your modem unplugged overnight and see if that helps?

tried leaving it off half hour still nothing. also have asked them if they can manually do it and they no bla bla bla have to wait for it to change.. not sure if this is true as the person i was speaking to was not tech support and was telling me this is what they said to her. if there is no other way but to call them then i think ill just give up since the last 3 times i get put on hold for so long and get no results... :(

I believe that Telecom operates sem-static ip addresses now, so you won't just get a new ip address by power cycling your modem. Not sure if you are able to request an ip address change though.

Im on total home broadband and my ip address changes everytime I connect.

Which is helpful when the cache has issues, to get a non cached ip

What service did you get your ip address banned on? Have you tried contacting the operator of that site/service to get unbanned?

There seems to be a reaonsable amount of misinformation floating around about dynamic/static IP addresses on Telecom Broadband.

I shall attempt to set the record straight.

Due to its government undertakings Telecom is currently running two slightly different Broadband solutions in their network.  They are very near to identical, but have a couple of minor differences, and IP address allocation is one of them.

On the original network, unless you have applied for a Static IP address, and have your username that has thia attached to it in your modem, you will be given a dynamic IP address.  It is highly likely that if you restart you modem you will get a different IP address.

The newer network still has both Static and Dynamic IP - except that the dynamic isnt' very dynamic.  Restarting your modem will have absolutely no effect, so don't waste your time.  The IP address will likely change if Telecom do any network changes, and is never guaranteed to be the same.  If you have a reason to change it, then if you call the helpdesk and have the case raise through to CTS, they will get it changed for you.

How do you tell which network you're on? Apart from the IP address behaviour, loosely if you signed up for Telecom BB from 1 Jan 2010, you'll be on the newer one.  Signing up before that date doesn't guarantee you're on the original network as Telecom is migrating customers over.

@cwaiariki, as above I'd suggest you contact the helpdesk and request an IP address change.  Please understand that this is a very rare request for them!  They will need to put the request through to CTS.
Any problems, please PM me and I will ensure that it gets done.
