Hello folks

Planning to get a mobile broadband data stick for parents-in-law, but most likely as prepaid, seeing they only need it while going around the country, which is every few months.

A couple of questions, not clear on Telecom's web site:

1.Can we just purchase a data pack without having to actually subscribe (as in only buy when they actually leave on a road trip)?

2.How you purchase data packs and top up with data sticks? Via SMS (if dialer supports it) via web site?

3.How is usage monitored? Via web site? Any SMS shortcode for mobile broadband balances?

Thanks

We used to use one a year or so ago that we had to use phone credit to top up with, never had to sign up with. And I think to check your usage we either had to log in to an online meter, or used a link on the software provided.

Can't really be too specific, but i imagine things have changed anyway...

http://www.telecom.co.nz/internet/mobilebroadband/plansandpricing/prepaid

You would need to subscribe to the service when you go on your road trip, and unsubscribe when you get back.  Also making sure you topup every 12 months otherwise your SIM get disconnected.

freitasm: 2.How you purchase data packs and top up with data sticks? Via SMS (if dialer supports it) via web site?

http://www.telecom.co.nz/ytmobile

Which is where you can topup prepaid numbers via credit card or voucher, plus you can topup via 0800 323232 with a credit card / voucher too.

freitasm:3.How is usage monitored? Via web site? Any SMS shortcode for mobile broadband balances?

As above.  Check usage and topup via ytmobile or via the 0800 323232
