Ive been wanting to move to slingshot unlimited but my folks want to keep their xtra mailbox.
Is this possible?

From what I remember yes it is, but they will need to pay a fee each month for it. Call the 123 they'll be able to tell you the cost.

Yes you can, its $10/month for each @xtra.co.nz email address.

Basically, there is no option to retain just your email address on it's own. But as long as you continue to have an internet relationship of some kind with telecom, you can keep your 'free' premium email service.

The cheapest way to do this is with dialup.

Dialup is $10 if you have your access line (landline) with telecom, or $20 if you don't.
(slingshot allow you to buy their unlimited plan but keep telecom landline, so should be ok to do this)

Ok thanks. Looks like id have to get the $10 dial up option.

I really should just get them off the @xtra and on to gmail.

2: Setup gmail to pull their xtra email into gmail
3: Get them to email their contacts telling everyone the gmail address is there new address
4: Stop paying for the xtra email address after x months

Step 0: buy them a domain name so if you decide gmail sucks you can use any service or ISP you like without ever worrying about the email address every again. (Then use the free gmail apps)

Geez that is costly. You can buy a domain and get email hosting way cheaper, and that way you have an email address for life.

They do - this was discussed on here a few days ago.

In all reality though there is absolutely no reason why anybody should need to, or should want to use an ISP email address these days when there are so many options to have your own domain and email address for life for $10 - $20 per year.

Im on a dialup connection, pay as you go.. costs me $3.75 or thereabouts a month to keep mine..

Telecom/Xtra used to do a "Hosted Mail" plan which was $2.50 per month, just for a mailbox. Check if they still do this.

EDIT: $2.50 + GST.
