Hi, I am on a smartphone plan and it says I need to give 30 days notice to quit. How do I synchronize thesporting to another provider? Do I give notice and then on the 30th day apply to port number thru new provider?

Cheers.

Ps I am getting a lot of voicemails and am going broke listening to them each time ... Can you make it free?

You can just schedule the port and you'll be billed up until the date of disconnection.

Out of interest why are you porting away from Telecom?

As to voicemail, the only away I can think of to avoid these charges is where you have Call Minder on your Landline, and have a dual voicemail, clearing the messages from your fixed phone.

I must admit this is one reason I am looking at moving away from Telecom also - the stupidly tiny reason of charging to access voicemails!

Now that I'm looking, it does look like Vodafone's Smart plan will offer a much better deal, especially with the 3 free NZBest mates.
