Hello

I live in Epsom and having very poor connectivity issues with my Telecom Broadband since last 2 years.

I get maximum download speed of 2.3 mpbs and upload speed of 0.5 mpbs.

I understand from Chorus website that  my exchange was  ADSL2+ enabled in June 2011. My exchange area is Mt Eden

Following are my line stats

DSL Connection
Link Information
    Uptime:0 days, 0:02:02DSL Type:G.992.3 Annex L US NarrowBandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:123 / 1.859Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:0,00 / 0,00Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:7,5 / 18,5Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:25,5 / 40,0SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:12,5 / 12,5Vendor ID (Local/Remote):TMMB / BDCMLoss of Framing (Local/Remote):11 / 0Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):1 / 0Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0Loss of Link (Remote):0Error Seconds (Local/Remote):1 / 0FEC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 0CRC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 0HEC Errors (Up/Down):533.536 / 0
Appreciate any inputs in resolving my speed issue.

Tnx

Your attenuation is very high. The first thing to try is performing a basic isolation test, ideally disconnecting every device and jackpoing except for the first one where the wiring enters your house.

Statistically speaking your internal house wiring be be the cause of your issue - if you aren't confident testing things it'll probably pay to get somebody in to look at your wiring.

tnx for your feedback , Steve

After receiving  your response , I spoke to  Telecom.

They did acknowledge the poor speeds and sent a Chorus technician to look
into this today.

Technician did some tweaking on the line and now my results have doubled which are as follows

DSL Type:G.992.1 annex ABandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:896 / 4.096Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:0,00 / 0,00Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:12,0 / 18,5Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:25,0 / 41,0SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:14,0 / 12,5Vendor ID (Local/Remote):TMMB / BDCMLoss of Framing (Local/Remote):38 / 0Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):11 / 0Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0Loss of Link (Remote):0Error Seconds (Local/Remote):50 / 0FEC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 1.585CRC Errors (Up/Down):0 / 2HEC Errors (Up/Down):2.422 / 2
I had a chat with guy and as per him , this is the best I can get.

Interestingly , I am connected to a exchange which is 2.5 kms away from my home while a
brand new  ADSL2+ enabled cabinet is  just outside my house.telecom will not change me to cabinet
as this will disturb their existing wiring layout.

Do you think it will be worth taking it up with Telecom

Tnx and grateful to you

So what is the point of the cabinet?
Yeah, I'd be on the phone quick as.

Type:G.992.3 Annex L US NarrowBandwidth What is that?

I see your modem is connecting you on ADSL1 now which is probably what the Chours tech did.

Annex L is for long distances.

I'm not sure if the "what is the point of the cabinet" is a sarcastic comment or not - the point of the cabinet is to provide DSL services to customers served from the MDF in it.

With the cabinetisation rollout it's not possible to cover every single person in an urban area, due to the way the original copper was deployed there are pockets of customers who are going to be outside the optimum 2km distance from a cabinet or exchange (ie the 10Mbps zone). The simple reality is making wiring changes aren't a simple thing to do, and there is no east way a single house could just be connected to a cabinet.

I would try a different modem however if I was you, there is no reason why your speeds should't be slightly better than that.

Yes it was sarcasm.

I get your point about the wiring, I'd still try to persuade Telecom though, you never know.
So the cabinets are not the always the best solution.
I agree the speeds should be better but the Attenuation figure is still the same after the Chours Tech so don't know if he helped much, different modem might help.
The other suggestion I would make is
if the  house does not have a proper splitter, get one installed that will more than likely help.
