Hi Guys,

Have bit of an issue with receiving text messages from Tonga and wonder if anyone has any ideas.

I have 2 XT mobiles on account with Telecom.  My number (number A) has been with Telecom for years and have never had an issue.  The other number (number B) ported over from 2 Degrees in October and up until a few weeks ago all was good.

We have family living in Tonga and frequently call and text there.  Number A can call and send text and receive texts fine.   The ported number B can send (and the texts are received in Tonga) ok but never receives texts sent from Tonga to NZ.

Tonga can make voice calls to number B ok.

We have tried the XT sim card in 2 phones and we have had family in Tonga to try and send texts to number B from 3 different Digicel numbers. We get none of the texts.

Digicel in Tonga are useless and say it is not their problem and as far as they know it is “working”.  In New Zealand Telecom helpdesk told me since we can send NZ to Tonga ok, the issue is not with them and to talk to Digicel.

Any ideas? Anyone else having issues?

Cheers

The issue really needs to be looked into from the A party network not the B party if the SMS were making it to the Telecom NZ network they would deliver them to the customers handset

You say the number (B) was ported from 2degrees in October, and it was working properly until just a few weeks ago. Does that include receiving texts from Digicel Tonga?

I ask because the porting process can often cause delivery problems until concerned operators have updated their databases, but if it was working after being ported then the problem may lie elsewhere.

Hi Matt,

Yup, everything was working fine (including texts from Digicel) until a few weeks ago.

Strange!
