Hey guys,

I have an iPhone 3G which is on the Vodafone network. It's OK in general, but where I live the reception is lousy. I'm wondering if it's time to switch to telecom and take my number with me.
Is there anything I need to know?

My folks here have an R100 Telecom branded phone on the XT network and it gets great coverage - however, I also have a Telecom t-Stick - an MF626, and the reception is not good with that at all.

Why the difference?

Will changing to telecom increase reception on my iPhone, or is it a toss-up?

Different devices have different RF performance. I would suggest try taking your MF626 Telecom SIM and inserting it into your iPhone 3G and judge for yourself :)

Everywhere you can get coverage however will be 3G, as Telecom operate a 100% 3G network.

Are you planning on switching to Telecom Prepaid, or Postpaid?

The things to know about number porting:

1.DO NOT CLOSE YOUR VODAFONE ACCOUNT
2.Go to a Telecom store and start the number port
3.Once the number is ported *AND* WORKING on Telecom you might wait a day or so and call Vodafone to confirm they have flagged the account to be closed

If you are currently on Vodafone On Account you will receive one last invoice. This will include your usage and may include any early termination fees if you are on a term contract. Check your contract for any early termination costs.

If you are currently on Vodafone Prepay you will lose any balance after the number porting is done, as balances do not go from telco to telco (obviously, although not to some people).

I would also check Vodafone coverage maps to see if there is 3G Extended coverage in your area (the iPhone 3G does not support this).

You would need to change to an iphone 4/4s to take advantage of that.

Thanks all for your comments.
I did the switch to XT network and it's working great. Coverage is much better than Vodafone.
The switch was FREE as well.

Gave me a new SIM card and did the switchover, and it came through that same evening.
