After being told by a Telecom retail store she bought it from that they will not upgrade  fones due to the fact that they may damage them my wife has not let me near her SGS1.  However as she is going to be in Hosp next week she has relented.

I have done upgrades to WinMo6.1 and Nokia fones without problems  but never an Android. As Kies seems such a pig and  and has not be the best user experience at home, but Ok at work are there any hooks I should look out for before I start??

Thanx in advance..

Regards,

Never used KIES, I've only ever used ODIN and Clockwork.

I upgrade two SGS ones a few weeks ago via Kies, and they both upgraded without any issues at all.

The market remembers anything you've bought, your contacts are backed up to GMail. Kies does sometimes stuff things up but usually the worst that'll happen is that you need to do a factory reset and enter your details again. Just back things up beforehand as much as you can, "just in case", but you should be fine.

It'd pay to make sure you've got the latest version of Kies and that you're not behind a firewall when you're running it as well. And make sure the phone is well charged.

Kies was certainly a POS in the past but Samsung have made several upgrades in the past 6 - 12 months and it's a lot better now.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
