Hi all,

Does the XT Network support Fast Dormancy? Also, have anyone noticed any difference in battery life with Fast Dormancy enabled/disabled?

Thanks!

Battery life is significantly improved by disabling fast dormancy.

For those who haven't seen it, if you have an Android phone, dial #*#*9900*#*# and select "Disable fast dormancy" from the bottom of the list.

Enjoy the ~20% more idle-life from the battery.

What about Vodafone? Any idea about 2Degrees?

And do the carriers ship their phones with it disabled on it?

Added ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule= 0 to my build.prop. Let's see if it has any difference.

can you tell if FD is active by the H changing to a 3G quickly after an inactive data connection or is this a poor indicator? (im just reading peoples comments after googling a bit).

Seems to be if the network has it, you get better battery life and speed with it enabled. If the network doesn't have it, you get better battery life with it disabled.

Well I have noticed an improvement in battery life since I disabled fast dormancy. I probably need to test it more though. In any case, the constant switching between "H" and "3G" was really annoying; glad that's over with!

A phone switching between 3G and H is perfectly normal. A phone establishes a connection to the rel 99 3G channel and only switches to HSDPA / HSPA+ on demand through a state change as required. Once the HSDPA / HSPA+ resources are no longer required it will switch back to the rel 99 3G mode again and (typically) enter a sleep mode.

My HTC Desire has never entered shown 3G, from the original Telstra stock rom to the custom sense roms that i used, to the gingerbread AOSP roms, cyanogenmod, and now Cyanogenmod9 based on ice cream sandwich. When i have mobile data enabled, its a solid H the whole time.

Is this not what it should be doing?

H is better (=faster) than 3G. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, but in my case it would constantly switch multiple times within a span of a few seconds.. that can't really be good for the battery, right?

That's perfectly normal, and how it's supposed to work.

Can someone tell me if XT network still does not support fast dormancy?

I just moved to XT from vodafone and I disabled fast dormancy on my Note. I found it to use more battery when FD is disabled.
