Has anyone managed to successfully setup a PPTP VPN using a Telecom Home Broadband connection and a Thomson TG585v8 ADSL router?

I have added a port forward pass through rule on the ADSL router for port 1723 (and port 47, just in case), but I have not managed to get it to work. I don't have another router to test, but have been on the phone to Telecom's "Tier 2" Broadband support and they tell me that there is no port filtering that could be preventing my connection.

It is worth noting that I can connect successfully using Telecom Business Broadband via a 2Wire ADSL router that we have setup at the office for guest DSL access. (I did have to create the port forward pass through rules for it to work.)

Really interested to hear if anyone has had any experience attempting to do this with the Thomson TG585.

There shouldn't be anything to stop it. Is your PPTP client support upnp since you shouldn't need to open any ports unless you are running a server. Perhaps dmz mode might be the go

I have PPTP working fine via a Thomson TG585v8 on the Telecom NZ network.

I have a PPTP server on my LAN so I do have to enable inbound PPTP ports/IP protocols (restricted by IP networks)

IP protocol 47 (GRE) and IP port 1723.

But as plambrechtsen suggests, there shouldn't be any problems with an outbound connection given the PPTP server is configured to accept your inbound username/password/network(if firewalled)
