Currently I'm on a Telecom Business plan for my home business which gives me very good performance.  But my family is using more and more data after hours, so I need to make some changes in provisioning data to my teenagers!

I'm considering a couple of options at present - one is to change to a package such as Total Home, but there is still a data limit and there are features of Telecom's Total Office that I'd rather not lose.

Or I could use our 2nd phone line to connect to another ISP who offers a better deal.  Some ISPs such as Slingshot and Woosh (ADSL) offer cheaper plans than Telecom but I understand that their performance can be pretty average.

Any thoughts/ideas?  Is there another solution that I'm missing?  And don't suggest kicking the kids out, although it is tempting sometimes!

So the regular residential Total Home broadband offerings aren't an option for your second line?

Then split between business use and home use?

One option is a Total Home package, but my price point is around $100 and you only get 60 MB of data with their $105 package.

Woosh do a 100 MB package over ADSL for $110 but it's difficult to find out if they do ADSL well as everyone hated their wireless service.

What features of the Total Office package do you need? Surely these can be copied or ost likely bettered by other service providers for a lower cost and higher data allowance.

Have you tried ringing Telecom to see what they could offer you? As a business customer I would expect they could come up with some solution.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

OK, I've decided what to do.  I will keep the landline with Telecom and have gone on the waiting list for the Maxnet unlimited plan.  I'll start a thread in the Maxnet forum once I have a connection date.

There is some interesting info here which you'd want to read carefully before signing up:  http://www.maxnet.co.nz/internet/unlimited-broadband-offering.html

Did you try ringing up 123 (Residential) and / or 126 (Business) and asking what they can do for you?

Normally the Retention team can see if they can find some middle ground for you especially if you're considering moving elsewhere.

If you ring up 123, and ask to be put through to a retention specialist they should be able to work out your needs and come up with a work-able plan.

Worth thinking about.

I might try that - I've been called 3 or 4 times about signing another 24-month contract.

I talked to a sales person at Telecom a while back about moving the whole family to XT if they could match Vodafone Family.  He'd never heard of the product!
