Threads are often locked with no explanation whatsoever.
I am sure it would help the community if they were informed of the reasons behind the decision. This would help posters to better understand (over time) what is likely to cause that result.

scottjpalmer: It is usually the original topic having been explored and then conversation deviated to no longer be relevant to the thread title, often with petty namecalling and/or insults.
A read of the last few posts with the FUG in mind and remembering we strive to keep threads on topic would in very near all if not all cases make it pretty obvious.
