Great competition.

I change my computer system about every 3 years, the one i bought at 2003 was a pentium 4 2.4C system with ATI 9600Pro graphic and 512MB memory, now i am on the Intel E8400 platform with 8800GTS and 4GB memory which was bought at the end of 2007, times fly, the technology flys too, due to the new i series processors come out, I am still waiting like when the E6300 first released and then i got the E8400, I believe there will be the more powerful processors with right price suit me. But this great competition is right here, if i won this i5 processor, i totally dont mind replace my current system with the new technology, oh, i still have to wait for the new series Nvidia graphic, i believe that will be much more powerful than the current ati 5 series.

Thanks.

Ive been wanting to build a HTPC but the cost of a capable processor has me draging my feet.  I would like a high powered processor but plan to under use it to keep it cool with a minimum of fan noise.  I purchased a Revo Aspire 3600 but it just doesn't do it for me.

Thanks

I had considered upgrading my gaming PC but that is still performing more than adequately. Then I thought about a media server/HTPC  but coinsidered that this was underutalising the CPU.

I finally decided that if I was lucky enought to win one of these CPU's I would use it as server farm. I would look at using it's built in virtualisation for running a personal Linux production server, a Windows 2008 server and  an RHEL server, both for personal and cetification training and maybe FreeNAS for network addressable storage, centralising all my data into one location rather than having it scattered around on seperate systems.

If I can't use FreeNAS on it, no real issue as I have another, lowend machine that can be pressed into service.

Thanks for the opportuinty to win this.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

I would like this processor to be the first component for my new home media PC, this would also function as a home server for general file storage.

Thanks for the chance to win this great processor! It would be a great addition to my HTPC server, allowing my GF to finially have her own desktop with my old processor (with HTPC client of course).

Good luck everyone.

My home network currently has a deficiency I cannot solve without building a new PC so I am currently am in the planning stages of my next PC.  This PC will be used to integrate my Ham radio PC needs (packet, APRS, and AMSAT) and to provide a data collection point for my backyard weather station.  I could then also centralize our home media to a machine other than the one I'm trying to play games/ work on.  I need to divvy up the responsibilities of my current PC because I'm getting saturated right now.

In addition, I am after seven long years still trying to convince my wife to play some PC games with me.  One of her disagreements is that she always has to use the previous generation PC (currently a first generation X2).  It uses DDR RAM!! Surprised If I had an i5 to base this new PC on, it would then surpass my i7 system I built early last year and maybe give me a shot at overcoming my epic struggle.  Please Geekzone help me out!

This would allow me to drag my Home Theatre PC kicking and screaming into the twenty first century - it's currently stuck somewhere between the Babbage Adding Machine and an Acorn Electron.

Getting married, buying a house, changing jobs, having 2 kids.... dosent leave much money for upgrades unfortunately. Ive been hanging out for an upgrade for a few years now but everytime I go to do it, something comes up which whisks the funds away.... so for me to potentially win this CPU would be an absolute blast and cut down on the upgrade path for me.
My current system would be "donated" to my kids (ok, ones only 4 months old, but hey, start them young - the other is coming up on 3 and showing interest in using the mouse etc :) ) to play with and learn (Edubuntu).

Fingers crossed........

XPD / Gavin

Since my mother died I've been regaining focus on my work, but slowly. I've cut the landlines, subscribed to
cable - after a decade of dial-up - and am redesigning the household to work it as a filmmaker's haven.
1st job was setting up to stream hulu, syfy, The auteurs... in the living room. Since I can't afford much more than the house bills I did this with about $45 worth of stuff from garage or thrift sales (surround sound system, dvd and P4) and the rest from the trash - old TV, box of cat5e wire - all that I had already.

The people who were counting on making some more intimidating phone calls to my house, synchronized
satellites and integrated technology is something I've been writing about for 2 decades, are disappointed.

Appears the film industry has some vague prejudices against women with ambitions, so I'm sitting on
my bed with a copy of the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 certification booklet. I've been winning bits and
pieces for a couple of years now, while my mother was dying and I was ignored asking for people to help.
I've got a new case and power supply still in a box. She's in a box too.
;<).

Also, am changing my name back to when I was 4, born Irish, to Jung Man**. Appears there is quite a
bit of work for persons with that name. Ya, those people travelled around in cars while I was backpacking
across 12 countries alone, camping in the streets of central america and europe. Well if you have it that
EZ I guess you have the energy to get some good work.

Am I banned yet? Although I've been cross training in all different areas of filmmaking, the getting banned
part is my specialty. I could use the processor to help the others in the banned. Thanks!

Imagine invitin' me to this contest, eh?

We have a clapped out PC that we brought before children, and moved to a single income, but has served us well.

It is unfortunatly under-speced and not able to edit the videos we are recording of our kids.  I have been looking at replacing the motherboard, ram, CPU and video card of the current PC. Winning this processor will allow us to upgrade the PC much sooner than we had planned.

I would use the processor to replace the system I have that does the back-end crunching of video and serving of it to my display front-end. Having built a number of HTPC boxes over the years I have come to the conclusion that they are all just too hard to maintain and keep the WAF above 5. The appliance-type gizmos available now like the Western Digital HD TV Live box I currently have attached to my HD TV, will play most things and they have a simple enough interface that even my 6-year old can figure it out.

Having a decent, grunty backend system to process, store and serve up the content is the key to it all. My 2c-worth anyway...

Hi, i'd like to win the i5 so that I could build another machine to keep step-dorta and girlfriend off my i7 DDR3 machine. It is a nightmare as it stands as it seems that someone is always logged on anytime I want to use my own machine. Thanks in anticipation. . . . .

My machine has started needing multiple reboots in the morning - hmm not a good sign so time for a nice upgrade, me thinks.  Well that's my justification anyway!
