insane: I'd be more in favor of being able to mute someone from further contributing to a given thread if they are given enough dislikes by others active in the thread.
'you have been banned from further contributing to this thread by a jury of your peers'
Kyanar: Personally, I'm more in favour of the "Ignore" functionality present in other commercial forum scripts. You can ignore a person, but all that happens is instead of seeing their posts you see "1 post(s) ignored from (user). Click here to show anyway" and if you click it the full post appears as if by magic (JS element hiding clearly ;))

freitasm: Hmmm. So what's the problem here then? "Plonk" in my view (and by definition) is when YOU put someone into an ignore list that is for YOUR use only, not affecting anyone else. That's what I was thinking, and that's what Kyanar suggested.
How can filtering your personal view can "create[s] tension on the forums"?

Plonk is a Usenet jargon term for adding a particular poster to one's kill file such that the poster's future postings are completely ignored.
