Obviously the first thing I've noticed is that our database almost doubled in size when converting topics, posts, private messages and news to double byte Unicode support...

Pity it's not clever enough to enable double-byte support on a per-record basis depending on whether it's used or not :(

Since SQL Server requires a table/column definition, we had to go for ntext and nvarchar where these are used. And this applies to the entire table, not a record by record basis.

I thought it only used wider characters when needed, up to 4 bytes for some of them, but anything in the lower half of the standard charcter set was just left as-is?
