glad I found this thread, tried search and came up with nothing I needed and thought the same that I had been hijacked. Apart from the date thingy the GZ search was fine or, I was used to it.

I hate that pop up - worst feature on the site ever.

People should just not be stupid and use google search. They just need to spend 5 more minutes looking at the results.

I would like the ability to refine my search by date (past week, etc), user, specific forums.

I don't think its stupid to use GZ search at all, if its there and works the way it did or better then I'll use it.

Not a great fan of the pop up style - IMHO it's a bit distracting - would prefer to see it located in a similar position to the current (google) one.

Yikes, I'm not a fan of that pop up search box either. Using iPad Safari. The pop up thing jiggles a pixel left or right when I scroll through a page.
Personally I don't search on GZ a lot so I would prefer not to have the pop up all the time, but I appreciate the effort to make the site more usable.

Cheers,
Joseph

Edit. Also I guess the site is being indexed still? As the search function doesn't seem to return any usable results. Searching for iPhone generates 3 results, one of which is the forums in general.

I add my dislike of this popup.  I also thought I had been infected with some spyware. I prefer the existing search

I thought I had unwittingly installed some browser extension too; glad I found this thread (ironically, using google).

Sorry, that's what I meant. The GZ google search gets better results than that terrible terrible pop up.

I like that there's a better search facility, but anything that pops up or moves I find distracting. Can it be a standard link in the header? I'll block it with adblock if it stays, which I generally disable for GZ on most of my computers.

Disabled it as it's not bringing any relevant results for some searches really.

joker97: I found that the search bar gives you "most relevant" order of results ... sometimes that means 10 year old posts/threads come first and what I am after is bumped out of view

very annoying

Getting this old thread back... Yesterday I changed the code in our Search page. One thing I remembered from this old thread is the request for "date" sorting. This option has been available for a while now but mentioning just in case you missed it.
