Copyright is a concern, sure. One should always make sure to use images where rights for reproduction are given.

As for bad words, I might look at relaxing it... Let's see how it goes.

DarthKermit: Forgive me, but I've never been able to get the copy and paste an image directly into the reply box to work. It usually says there's some kind of forbidden swearword in the base 64 thing.

You should be good pasting images with bad words in the encoding directly to the reply now.

One of the side effects of going HTTPS is taking advantage of SPDY and HTTP/2 in modern browsers, thanks to our CDN Cloudflare.

I have changed images in almost all pages to be served over HTTPS, regardless of the page itself. You should notice an improvement in page load times (we were already pretty fast) if you use a modern browser - IE 11, Edge, Chrome or Firefox - with support for SPDY or HTTP/2. All those images are being loaded at the same time now...

I'm about to move all my domains over to AWS, with Cloudflare free in front. As part of this I'll be moving them all to https to take advantage of https2/spdy as well. Page load times definitely seem better, though the testing tools don't generally support them yet - you have to test using web browser developer features.

If you use Dev Tools you will see all images/CSS loading at the same time in the waterfall. Currently a little difference because we used domain sharding (on HTTP/1 it is more efficient) but we will move everything to a single domain soon enough.

Technically if domains resolve to the same ip then HTTP/2 will still multiplex them (at least in theory).

Yes but the browser first needs to establish that the domains are in the same server and the certificate is valid for both (wildcard). This means TLS negotiations happen before the browser decide it can do all over one channel.

Less is better.

I have just finishing consolidating domains around - we used to have cdn.geekzone.co.nz, images.geekzone.co.nz, avatar.geekzone.co.nz and a couple of others for sharding when loading resources.

We now should have only cdn.geekzone.co.nz in the main pages*.

This means these pages should use a single connection to download all images around our pages, making things even faster (single connection, etc). Also we have a "preconnect" clause on top of our scripts now, to establish this connection as early as possible.

Other occurrences will be dealt later as they aren't high priority - can't just go doing find/replace all around...

* main pages are homepage, forums, public profile, wall

6 months on how is this looking? We just moved Drugs.com to full HTTPS and so far it's been good. Very little down turn in ad revenue, positive SEO, good web performance (thanks to http/2).
