Yes, it's got much worse recently for me too.

IE11, and I work for a large central government agency and have absolutely no influence whatsoever over the way the browser is configured.
Pop-ups are suppressed, there's an ad blocker, whitelist/blacklist system, content inspection, reverse proxy, cookies not retained between sessions, &c., &c. SECURITY!
I'm actually quite surprised that both Java and Flash still work (or at least are not prohibited), but suspect they'll be gone soon, too.

By the way, although I can't influence the way that IE11 is configured, even if I could I wouldn't change these aspects, because I think the security argument is unassailable. frown

I cant help but post this again...

Thank you for the entertaining video. I hadn't seen it before. I do have Ghostery enabled but nothing else and I don't use private mode. I prefer Chrome-based (but not Google Chrome) to any other browser I have tried. Normally I use Slimjet but lately I have also been trying out Vivaldi.

What antivirus are you using?

Do you use any adblockers?

I'd be inclined to format and reload a fresh copy of *os-of-choice*, load plain google Chrome and try that first...it will eliminate a whole horde of possibilities of things that you could have modified/installed in the past that are long since forgotten, but still interfering.

If that sounds like too much effort for troubleshooting, try a virtual machine.

I don't use antivirus, just run checks with Malwarebytes and Defender from time to time. No ad blockers. Main problem seems to be with the Notebook which is running W10 upgraded from 8.1 but I would be very reluctant (read: no way) to reinstall that since it more or less works with W10 upgrade but I have no idea what drivers would not be there if I tried to install from scratch and I don't have a whole lot of faith in Windows where that kind of thing is concerned. I just don't want to open that can of worms. I might give the VM a whirl, though.

There's a new setting to make the CAPTCHA a bit easier and I have changed that.

Looking at stats, about 60% of the attempts come with no CAPTCHA data, which means a robot trying to post something - either there or the contact page.

OK I just shut down my laptop and tried logging in again. It was MUCH better (one attempt only). The first challenge didn't make any sense, showed a grid image of a railroad crossing barrier and asked for street signs, so I submitted a complaint and then got a 'normal' waterfall choice and that worked without further incident. So if it stays like  this I am back where I was before the latest 'improvement', still a pain but at least not rage-provoking.

Love the vid, Dairyxox!

What am I missing? My Chrome happily logs me in, each and every time, all on its own! With Ghostery as well.

Must be doing something wrong!

Myself - If I login with my phone using my wifi - I don't even get asked for the CAPTCHA. But same phone on mobile data - need to solve the CAPTCHA. Both via 2degreees. The difference - mobile data will be via CGNAT. So Google will be seeing lots of different connections coming from the same IP address.

@Rikkitic You were saying in a previous thread your internet connection was RBI broadband via Vodafone 4G. So presume your connection is also CGNAT (your public IP address is shared with alot of other people). If so then this will be why Google doesn't like your connection.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. It is always easier to accept something when you know the reason for it. Yet there are many, many other people who also have CGNAT. Google needs to get its head out of its posterior and come up with a system that doesn't write off a significant part of the population. Having said that, I should add that the captcha is much, much less annoying than it was, so something has certainly improved.

Are you logged into a google account? I have a feeling that may help with them sometimes.

Yes but to no avail both safari and chrome

Interestingly 1  if I click click to stay logged in the captcha doesn't show

2 if I click all of the images they have all ticks and it states multiple correct solutions required please solve more

no mention of anything being astray

On this topic... I have recently implemented ThisData on Geekzone, basically looking at user behaviour around the forum and using machine learning to identify unauthorised access and compromised accounts.

One of the things I've noticed is that we had 20 failed catpcha answers in the last six hours. This is not good.

The idea of having ThisData is to allow us to be smarter and ask for different authentication information based on your forum usage. This means at some point we might remove the captcha from login pages...

Stay tuned.
